Did I read it wrong or is it them reading it wrong? The end of this arc wasn't necessarily Kurapika letting the Spiders go because he wanted to "rise above" or what have you... Rather, he screwed up and his friends got taken hostage so he had to avoid combat and make a trade to get them back. The scene with melody, Kurapika, Chrollo, and Pakunoda in the "small room" wasn't trying to show that Kurapika was stooping to the Spiders' level by wanting revenge... IMO it was more trying to give context to Pakunoda and show that even Kurapika's hated arch-villains have camaraderie amongst themselves and care about each other (as we've seen with Uvo and Nobunaga previously and a few of the other Spiders as well). At the end of the day, well-written characters aren't 100% good or 100% bad. Even cold killers can have a semblance of a redeeming quality (like Pakunoda's loyalty in this case) that makes them a tiny bit relatable to our protagonists. PS: I have to say that Carlie's theory/desire for the Spiders' true "purpose" was wild to hear lol. "Restore balance" by genociding a race of innocents. Fun fact: Thanos inspired the writer of HxH!

2024-02-29 12:15:09 +0000 UTCChrollo's identity is the spider. He questions his existence and purpose, which ties up perfectly with the city he grew up in (Meteor City), where people's identities are unknown (Great writing). Chrollo uses the spider to understand himself better. Everyone in the group is an important asset in building up who Chrollo is as a person. The motive for the spider is that Chrollo can understand himself thru the troupe members. Chrollo's identity is the spider. Everything about the spider is about Chrollo. Chrollo = Spider. Every member of the troupe represents Chrollo in some interesting way. That's how Chrollo tries to find his purpose. Even with the hostage situation, he has no value as one. Why? The spider is who he is. If the spider lives on, Chrollo lives on. There are many layers to his character that I can't go into now but I will say every line he's said hits home when you try to understand him more.

2024-01-15 15:08:25 +0000 UTCThe troupe are def my fav villain group, they feel like an actual family unlike a lot of the other villain groups in anime and I appreciate that a loooot

2024-01-12 02:11:33 +0000 UTCIn my own disgustingly humble opinion, I think the Phantom Troupe is the best written Villain Organization in anime.

2024-01-12 02:00:19 +0000 UTCIf you listen for Killua's footsteps throughout the story, you'll notice they're completely silent.

2024-01-11 21:45:19 +0000 UTCSame! The other arc is fantastic too (without spoilers) but this one’s got a special place in my heart. There are so many moving pieces and intricacies, and the way it balances action and psychological maneuvering never gets old on rewatch.

2024-01-11 21:24:17 +0000 UTCBtw guys, starting next episode, there will be a new short segment after the ending credits called "G.I. Tutorial", basically like the Hunterpedia, but unlike the Hunterpedia, this one is actually useful for the arc and helps with immersion so I hope you'll keep watching them

2024-01-11 21:18:01 +0000 UTCRIP Pakunoda, I really liked her. And this is the episode that made me like Phinks a lot. The way we saw him considering Killua and Gon through her eyes and find respect for them. The Troupe are really a different group of villains, because you kinda see the whole arc as if they're the main characters on their quest to find Kurapika and avenge a friend. The flashback also made you realize that the founding members know each others since they were teenagers. They're not a group of villains, they're a family in some ways. Next arc is really different and underestimated (Its really good but its set between the two best arcs so it feels less good) introduce one of my top 3 characters, I'm really hype

2024-01-11 21:06:31 +0000 UTCIn the 1999 version, the scene of Hisoka declaring his fighting intent to Chrollo was so funny! He was dancing in a very weird way 🤣 I think you can find it on youtube.

2024-01-11 20:53:38 +0000 UTCYes it's revealed in the manga, so I won't say anything specific. I'll let you decide how you feel about it once you learn about it. It might be considered a minor spoiler, but I think it's okay to say that they do have a grand goal or end game because obviously, these highly intelligent and skilled people didn't just form a criminal group just on a whim even though that might be realistic as some groups in real life do form randomly and with no real grand goals - that doesn't really make much for an interesting story though, especially for such an iconic group of villains who have already been humanized a lot even at this very early point in the story. So I personally really like that they do have a big purpose.

2024-01-11 20:49:46 +0000 UTCI’m assuming it’s revealed in the manga then? Cause it definitely wasn’t in the anime. Idk how i feel about that though. It was actually a pretty grounded aspect to them cause a lot of people in life take out their bitterness and anger on others without a big concrete goal. A big pronounced goal can feel a bit too hollywood/anime. But okay, if it isn’t something too cliche then I think it’s fine. I’ll prob catch up on the manga at some point but hiatus x hiatus has that name for a reason.

2024-01-11 20:36:19 +0000 UTCThe Spider does have a grand purpose/end goal though. It's just not revealed at this point yet. I mean of course, there's a reason why Chrollo formed them and it's a big reason.

2024-01-11 20:22:47 +0000 UTCPhinks and Feitan mentioned that there are some people who can remove other people's Nen. Then Chrollo was shown saying "East it is" implying that Chrollo was looking for a person who can remove other people's Nen in East.

2024-01-11 20:17:40 +0000 UTCI understand wanting a more grand purpose for the spiders but it’s not always the case in life that there’s some concrete end goal and it’s a more common writing trope so I’m glad this group was a bit more eccentric. It’s pretty implied that they’re really just a band of people who share a close bond that came from a terrible place and are lashing out and “getting even” with the world. They’re obviously dysfunctional and not well adjusted. It’s why they went into the background on meteor city. It’s literally a dumping ground for the world.

2024-01-11 19:43:58 +0000 UTCThis arc is actually just the 2nd favorite arc for most people who've seen HxH. Personally though, this is my favorite arc. I just really love the noir/city hunter (not sure how to describe it) vibes that it has, and how they're hunting each other in this Vegas type of city.
