HxH birthed AOT character designs lol. Pakunoda def inspired Annie. Shalnark/Kurapika=Armin, Feitan=Levi, Chrollo=Eren. It’s crazy cause Togashi designed all of these characters in the 90s. So ahead of his time.

The HxH author made a two-chapter prequel and it goes into Kurapika's childhood. It was released after the anime had already been aired so it was never put into anime form. It goes into detail about how brutally his clan was massacred. I don't think it's a spoiler to put some details here as it's a prequel and I don't think you'll read the manga, at least not anytime soon. If you read this, I think you'll feel Kurapika's rage even more. "Family members were sat down facing each other. They were stabbed multiple times and had their heads severed while still alive. Pure Kurta Clan members had both eyes gouged out. The eyes of outsiders who married into the clan remained, but were squashed. They had sustained more brutal wounds than other members of the clan. The perpetrators mutilated the little ones more frequently and brutally in front of their parents in order to produce a more vivid scarlet color on their eyes"

comparing shadow beast to a phantom troupe member (spiders) is like comparing a featherweight champion to heavyweight champion. They are in the different leagues. Although it can be debated whether every phantom troupe member can be considered "heavyweight champion" in terms of this comparison, it is pretty accurate to say shadow beasts are champions of featherweight where "featherweight" stands for humans that dont know about nen. Shadow beasts are "strongest" members of mafia, mafia's top dogs. mafia members dont know about nen just like how killua, gon and kurapika did not know anything about nen even though they knew a lot about hunters. shadow beasts are group of people who learned about nen and acts like they are super humans in the world of normal humans which is why i say they are "champions" of featherweight league.

The more you watch HxH the more you will see how much Gege took from it when making JJK. The entire power system is obviously very similar, but particularly like Ange mentioned, the binding vows are very very similar. Once you guys have finished HxH it's fun to go rewatch some of JJK to see the very clear homage scenes they have in multiple episodes, particularly of note in the most recent episode there is one very direct reference.

just in case you guys missed it, the shadows beasts are not just another antagonist group. They're the top ten Nen users amongst the mafia community and were dispatched by the Ten Dons (head honchos of the mafia community, ruling the auction) in order to deal with whoever perpetrated the attack on the underground auction. The other SB member, Owl, who looted the treasure room was told to do so as a safety measure by the Ten Dons, who got filled in on the incoming attack/robbery by a mysterious informer. Although said informer didn't unveil the identities of the attackers, hence their reactions when they see a spider on Uvo's back

Speaking of references from HxH, in JJK Hanami creating the flower meadow as a diversion that calmed enemies always felt like a reference to Melody’s ability! It even had the temporary change in environment.

Sensei: Why chains? Kurapika: Because there's evil running loose that needs to be chained down to hell. Honestly one of the toughest lines I've ever heard in anime. Also yes, the series starts being more graphic from here, but that's really mostly because they've got a later time slot at this point, so there's not a lot of need for censorship anymore. The series in the manga and the original anime was already graphic even in the earlier arcs but the 2011 version implemented some censorship because it had an early time slot. Which is quite funny considering they had no qualms about not censoring Hisoka's ass.

And about the leader of Phantom Troupe, Chrollo, you guys didn't see anything from him yet bcs the troupe's one big goal is to keep the Spider alive. Chrollo enter fights only when all other members are no match for certain situations. In another words, he enter fights only when it's needed. Also, he enter fights only when he is 100% sure about chances of winning, or when he is forced by the situation. Conservative as much as possible. In HxH and especially Mafia, you don't survive enough without precaution.
