Re:ZERO UPDATE!

Hey everyone! We'll be uploading the first 4 reactions to Re:ZERO this week! You can expect episodes 1a and 1b in the next few days. Im just finishing up with the OP cover!
This will take Mob Psycho's slot, so it will be 2 times a week until we can free up some space in the schedule!

The Director's Cut and the fully uncensored Blu-ray versions are mostly the same in content, however they are not the same in pacing. The major difference in the Director's Cut, aside from the episodes being combined, is that conversations are given room to breathe with more pregnant pauses, characters taking a moment to react or reflect, etc., whereas the TV version condenses the time that conversations take (without actually changing the script). From a dramatic presentation standpoint, then, the Director's Cut is definitely superior, but as long as you are watching the uncensored Blu-ray version you're not actually missing any content (aside from one extra scene at the end of the season). I do recommend the Director's Cut, but you're fine as long as you avoid the streaming TV versions, which are missing some disturbing imagery.

MrYinYang

I would heavily recommend you watch the Director's Cut. I can understand if you don't want to spend double the time per week on Re:Zero but it does expand upon the original version.

Noctislolig

You’re aware of the directors cut right?

MWS

Do you guys have a around about time for when you'll be starting your lie in april?

Callum

barü

I joined Patreon for this and your lie in April I’m so hype to see y’all’s reactions to them

TChang23

Same honestly. I was having a great time with it up through the end of the stuff at the mansion, but I feel like the second half of season one got more and more contrived in certain places (still really enjoyed some parts though). Season two I couldn't finish though. Felt like there were 10 different plotlines all going nowhere. Still, I'm down to rewatch it and see if I like it more this time.

Trav

its so interesting see this take because almost everywhere i see this show being talked about its that the first part of season 1 is kinda meh while the last half and season 2 is the reason its loved. Not that there is any wrong take, its just the first time im actually seeing people say they prefer the beginning of season 1 over the rest of the show.

Keith

PEAK

Xeno Rex

A lot of people like Season 2 more than one. It’s a personal preference.

ThaDoubleB

I feel the exact same way- I dropped the show at the start of season 2 after trudging thru the last bit of season 1. First part of season 1 was great, but def fell off. I think they'll enjoy the beginning and then eventually we'll see it in the c-tier on their list lol

mb

Myth & Roid's Overlord songs were so good, and also fit that show so well.

Khalayx

Not taking offense to your opinion, it’s all good. Curious as to how you came to it though, as to me Re:Zeros second season simply expanded on season 1 and wasn’t disconnected at all, but as u mentioned perhaps a rewatch is in order to help solidify/throw off your current stance

It wasn't really my intention to wander into a room full of fans and diss the show, although I guess people will take it that way. As I said, the first 2/3s or so of s1 I found to be top-tier. Maybe I was just wondering if anyone else out there would/will end up agreeing with me. To have a nuanced discussion would require spoilers. Plus, to be honest, I don't remember s2 very well at this point, I just remember being majorly disappointed. Maybe I will re-watch with you all and either change my mind, or offer my criticisms as they come up. (Given that I loved the first season, I will probably at least board the train with you all haha.) As for s2, I've changed my mind about plenty of other shows upon rewatching, so it's certainly possible.

Khalayx

Same here tbh but I'm interested in their reaction. Maybe I'll get through the end along with them xD

KaijinGarou

That's crazy that you say the seasons aren't connected because s2 tied back to a lot of stuff in S1, from the big moments to the very tiny details. Why a character acted the way they did and their motivations or the way things happened. It's not a show you can just sit back, turn your brain off and relax. It's why I love hearing the reactors' discussions trying to dissect and make sense of what happened more than watching the reactions themselves I think you're watching ReZero from the wrong perspective of it being just a gory action plot-driven show. Sure it was like that for a lot of S1. But no matter how much it disguises itself to be that, ReZero is at its best when it's character-driven. You might just not like character-driven stories. S1 was awesome and all but it didn't leave me wanting more because I wasn't invested in the world and characters. S2 changed and added that and it's why I'm way more invested in the world, the characters, and the story of Re:Zero.

Astrea Stars

I was just responding to DSANT21, with my comparison of the two. And I guess for me the thing they have in common is that s1 of both shows would be a top 5 isekai of all time for me, while I found s2 of both shows to be incredibly disappointing. But as I said in my previous reply, they were disappointing for completely different reasons. For Mushoku, I wasn't going to be the one to bring up plot points, but as you say spending an entire season on Rudy curing his ED almost made me feel like I was being trolled by the creators. If we subtract about 6 minutes of very problematic content (that's a big IF since it's stuff that's hard to overlook), s1 would have been maybe the best isekai of all time imo. Whereas s2 was the most unnecessary sidequest ever. Re: Zero s2 on the other hand was such a mess (and I don't remember it as freshly) that it's hard to even criticize, plus as I said I'm not going to put spoilers here anyways. But watching the second season it felt like they had just scrapped the first season and started an entirely new show. That was just my impression. Maybe I'll watch along here again and change my mind - I would love that, I really liked the show for awhile and would be happy to like it again.

Season 3 is likely to release near the end of 2024

Dammit now I have a reason to live on, at least til the end of the year!!

Ttsukasa

Idk how you’re trying to compare Re:Zero’s season 2 to Mushoku’s Season 2. They were vastly different in what they were about and what they were trying to convey, thus the pacing can’t be relativized when regarding that imo. Re:Zero gave many answers to previously formed questions and introduced a lot of new stuff, while Rudy cured his ED 😂

this is one long ass username

Im going to post a “best of” album of my covers on Spotify hopefully by years end!

Carlie & Ange

Again it's a little tough to discuss without spoiling but to me it just...introduced a lot of new stuff, without continuing the threads from season 1 that I was interested in, basically. Maybe if there's a season 3 it will tie it all together and I will change my mind. That would be great because as I said, this show started off super strong, I just didn't really like the direction it eventually took. I know its very popular so maybe that opinion is not widely shared, idk. Edit: Actually seeing your comparison, I loved s1 Mushoku and hated s2, even more strongly that with Re:Zero. Very different reasons though (imo Mushoku really leaned into the absolute worst parts of that show while ignoring the good stuff in s2)

Khalayx

Yeah I would refrain from watching any anime OPs lol

The Great Santini

Doesn't he post them on Spotify?

The Great Santini

2nd season was good IMO but it was definitely slower and more deliberate. Kinda like Mushoku Tensei S2 vs S1.

The Great Santini

As pain said “you shall know pain” but that barely scratches the surface of what’s going to happen

Rodrigo Reyes Escobar

I loved the first half or more of the first season, it was a contender for best Isekai of all time, but felt like it fell off a cliff after that. I don't think I even finished the second season. Maybe the hype of this community will let me give it another try, who knows? I certainly wanted to like the second season...well, I won't get into criticisms due to spoilers. We'll see.

Khalayx

Get your minds ready

Joey Sabishii

I’m going to wait patiently for Overlord

Rodrigo Reyes Escobar

The way I LIVE for the Myth&Roid ED 😭😭😭

Ebony Smith

Just FYI, all OP is a bit spoilery but the ED is safe. Not like it means much since the show barely plays them anyway.

Astrea Stars

Hey where can we go to get your full covers? I loved the jujutsu cover

Ttsukasa

Well at least they have haikyuu to heal their soul and mind as they watch this amazing show.

paladar blade

Can’t wait! Also I believe one of the OP is covered by Myth&Roid they are by far one of my favorites. I can’t wait for you guys to hear more of their OP’s because they have some bangers

Rodrigo Reyes Escobar

The wait was long but worth

Night Sterling

Here we go, baby! Great show. Can’t wait for the 3rd season (which should be coming out soon, I think?) Get ready to pay attention to all the details in this show!

The Great Santini

I cant freaking wait!
