Well demon slayer character criticism isn’t about big developments/character change or anything like that. They’re just generally generic and pretty one note. Like you can literally predict what comes out of the character’s mouths line by line. MHA has this problem as well. Agree about the animation quality and music though. It’s like james cameron avatar. Exceptional visuals but mid writing. Will depend on how much it balances for you.

2023-10-26 22:21:03 +0000 UTCi feel the ~exact~ same way about Haikyuu! it was my first sports anime, and as someone who ranks AoT, HxH, and FMAB as my top anime, i thought Haikyuu would just be a fun watch...but the EMOTIONS it puts me through, regardless of how many times i rewatch is insane (and it is def my most rewatched anime lmao). for me, Haikyuu, Kaguya-sama, and Mob Psycho are anime that i'm still so surprised i love as much as i do, but i hold them in SUCH high regard

It took me awhile to be honest with myself because it's about a boys volleyball club, not some crazy epic with the fate of the world at stake. It honestly looks silly putting something like Haikyuu in front of AoT or HxH, but why? Good is good, regardless of the subject matter. The fact is, I've rewatched Haikyuu more than any other anime, and it's the only anime to get me to read the manga to find out how it ends. It makes me laugh, cry, and shout for joy, and never manipulates or depresses me. If you want a suggestion for another anime with no true villains and dozens of heroes, I recommend Bakuman from the creators of Death Note. Similar to Haiykuu and Kageyua, it is a non-battle battle anime about creating manga. It's not nearly as popular as most anime out there, but it's a cult classic for sure.

I'm sure she was meant to be on the list, someone just made a mistake there. I don't really know her name, but I believe in love at first sight. Top Husbando: I was going to be a bit edgy and suggest Saitama, but it just is Nanami. I haven't even seen season 2 yet, but he was easily the best character in S1. He also shares the same voice actor with another husbando that didn't make the list: Kishibe, the guy who trained Power and Denji. Top show: It's probably Haikyuu, but Kaguya and HxH are very close follow ups. Haikyuu and Kaguya get extra points, because I was not at all interested in sports or romantic comedy shows before I saw them. Turns out genres don't really matter when the character writing is S tier. Thanks for all the work you do, your content has brightened my days many times. Let's hope the 200k celebration follows soon!

2023-10-25 16:38:48 +0000 UTCKaguya sama is pretty much the pinnacle of it's genre and it had a smooth progresion in quality, so I think it deserves it's placement. JJK didn't quite reach that high yet for me and AoT had some weaker moments, though i'd argue that season 4 made up for it's lows with some of the highest highs I've ever seen. And despite some simplicity in storytelling and lack of more complex characters I do believe DS also deserves it's rank, Some parts of it are mind blowing and everything else is good enough not to drag it down and the enjoyment factor is though the roof, doesn't have to be perfect in every single regard for the overall experience to be S tier.

It's way above AOT and JJK and Kaguya-sama (on this front I agree w/ Carlie ) IMO xD This made me go back to MAL to see the scores I gave each anime~and although I know classics probably won't generate as much algorithm, I hope one day you guys might watch Baccano! You guys can definitely have your own opinions after a show is finished etc. Most hate comes from when reactors say offensive and rude things about shows when they haven't seen the full picture yet. So having opinions on shows after you've caught up/completed them is okay. Because at the end of the day, you've caught up and have the full picture and can form opinions on them. Hate usually comes from when reactors completely misunderstand a character or anime and have already formed opinions on such during the middle of the season. I love how brave Ange is and I love how supportive Carlie is. I can't believe Carlie was the one standing up for some of these shows.

For me i sympathized greatly with Reiner and Annie all the way back in season 2 from Reiners line of how they were just kids and didnt know any better. Full disclosure im an Annie simp shes like my #2 waifu so I will defend her to the end of time 🤣 I love that moment between her and mikasa cuz it really just highlights the massive tragedy this show is, these people killing each other for no damn reason, but yeah that shits depressing 😂 and not always enjoyable so I can see how you feel that way. As for armin that poor boy is so insecure and guilty i wouldnt put it past him to jump into a titan’s mouth if it meant being free of the guilt that he survived over Erwin. Pure teenage impulsive moment 😂

The top of my list probably has to be JJK it just captivated me in every aspect immediately and I agree with you guys that the characters are arguably the best collection I have ever seen in an anime its incredible. Gojo is definitely the S tier husbando I can just never get enough and Misa from death note is a top tier waifu but that list is too hard. You guys are 100% my favorite reactors and I can't wait to see more. Especially Haikyuu, HxH, and JJK the fact that this trio is all happening at the same time is a massive W and I'm super excited for Blue Lock in the future too at some point hopefully. I stumbled upon your Demon Slayer Mugen Train reaction on Youtube, and yours are my personal favourite. Hope you hit the 200k milestone soon! I have to agree with Ange on the Haikyuu topic here, Haikyuu is definitely S tier for me if not higher, and this is coming from someone who does not watch sports in real life. The story is just amazing and well-rounded. The care the author puts into characters is insane. The sense of overwhelming fulfillment you get is unmatched. Partly, I think it's because it's relatable, with so many fleshed out characters, someone's journey just bounds to resonate with yours. And honestly, there are only so many animes that you can genuinely say that you love every single character, and Haikyuu is that anime for me. Also, it's one of those animes that you just keep rewatching, and coming back to it feels like home. This is just my personal opinion though! It is just as you said, this is not fact, just personal preference. I really enjoy your great work! :)))

Onwards to 200k and more! <3 I also agree with Ange in ranking Haikyuu or Kaguya (or any show) as S-tier based on how much he enjoyed it as a standard. Everyone has different criteria for how good they think a show is, and I agree with Carlie that you should consider the story-telling and world-building, but at the end of a hard day, if I had to choose between Haikyuu and AoT, the obvious choice for me would be Haikyuu. A show you can watch several times and still enjoy it each time should be given merit.

You can get more of my opinions in our Season 4 reactions but ill try to sum it up as best I can here. Essentially, it wasn’t necessarily badly written, i just struggled to find enjoyment in a lot of the episodes. I thought everything was extremely depressing, and I thought most of the characters became really cringe and a bit stupid. Mikasa hugging Annie, Armin trying to jump into Connie’s mum’s mouth, things like that. Annie eating pie next Armin and Connie as if nothing had happened. So many cringe moments in my opinion in a show that was always well above that. Theyre just some examples of the direction I didnt like. I think it just came down to how I viewed most of the characters. I also think they left the Marley stuff too late. Trying to get us to empathise/sympathise with them at virtually the end of the series is tough. It worked for some part but I then felt like the writing became forced.

But it wasn’t until I rewatched it, that I held it in such high regard. Like you guys, I was really confused by all the time travel stuff. However, upon a rewatch, and understanding everything better, it became one of the best anime I’ve ever seen. As much as I know the anime didn’t have a great color palette and wasn’t super character driven, I felt it only enhanced the watch experience knowing that those things were intentional. Just me though! I know everyone has their tastes, but I know Carlie mentioned that she watched JJK S1 over again, and it helped her appreciate it more. I feel that a rewatch is almost necessary for many anime out there.

For me personally is very difficult to rank shows i've seen because i try to be as fair as possible with the shows and with my self too. But Mob Psycho is a show that puts so much effort on what it's purpose is and the outcome is perfect, so i cannot judge it simply by enjoyment

It's wholesome and the most stressful anime I have watched. It's truly a roller coaster of emotions. Reactors are so worn out after some episodes they can't breathe well, yet they can't wait for another episode. Best example, it's like the story telling of Violet Evergarden then watching all the action of Demon Slayer in a sports show.

Ange summed it up perfectly there..it has really good animation, insane sound editing and design, really great fight choreography. Lot of people just tend to ignore those aspects of the show. People just sometime want to go against the grain because it is cool.

2023-10-24 19:22:11 +0000 UTCI see so many ppl angry that Eren & a majority of the scouts are now the villains of the story, but like…if you have been watching AoT and you try to justify genocide just because the main character you have been following is the one doing it, you kinda missed the point of the show 😅 i can empathize with Eren AND 100% condemn his actions and i feel like thats the mindset of our gang trying to stop him. Like Hange said “genocide is wrong.” That has and always will be AoT’s point, but like our world, its not as black and white, which is why i love the show so much.

2023-10-24 18:48:07 +0000 UTCI'm mostly a fan of stories that has a lot of layers in them, subplots and stuff, like Attack on Titan or Hunter X Hunter, but I agree with your ranking of Demon Slayer on S Tier. The story is very linear but a story doesn't have to always be non-linear for it to have a lot of effect on people's emotions. I think music, animation, how it moves my feelings, it does so well even though I probably won't even put it in my all time top 10, I would stand by you guys on it being S tier.

The only things that I didn't like were (as you mentioned it) the change in the studio and the long wait/cuts of the parts. Now, we have to keep in mind that C&A didn't have to wait at all (except a few months for Part 3 Part 1 and Part 3 Part 2) so their experience would be different from manga readers or other animés only who've followed the story for years (remember, 4 years for S2...). Therefore I'm super interested to understand Ange's point of view on the matter.

The main criticisms for this season come from the change of studio/animation and the long waits between parts/the slicing (for a lack of better words) of the parts. Because over in the manga fanbase (in terms of parts), the chapters that cover season 4 part 1 & 2 are the most beloved, only topped by those who are covered by season 3 part 2 (and maybe season 2 if you argue but yeah). So yeah, I would like to hear your thoughts more in depth! Have a great day!

I chose haikyu over any anime, no matter how good they are or how hype they are just because of the way it makes me feel whenever i watch it and i have already watched more than 50 times already alongside with the reactors and it never stop giving me chills or happiness or sadness or emotions. I knew what will happen and i still react to them like i was watching for the first time. thats how haikyu does to me
