Thanks guys. Are you interested in a Demon Slayer resin statue btw? I need to get rid of one, and happy to donate it to you both for your streaming room? I live in Victoria so can drop it wherever (too big and heavy to post). Let me know.

Carlie & Ange

Aaron Wright

Nanami is quite the high bar of standard to reach, I expect you to come out with a shredded body and blonde hair by the end of the year hahaha

Guts

Thanks!! I have been trying to put on a bit of size. Set up the home gym earlier this year. All of these husbandos were emasculating me 🤣🤣

Carlie & Ange

Raiden told Lena “hope you can do this with the next ones too" basically saying his farewell to her as it was believed that they are just going to die and everyone also knew that the connection would’ve cut off. They’re so used to fighting and people dying around them that they didn’t bother making it too big of a deal for Lena also partly as to not cause her too much heartache (bad way to go about it, but yeah that’s how they did that lol)

this is one long ass username

At ep 8 when Annette said "You're just as guilty as me", Carlie pointed out that Lena is not as guilty as Annette and Ange agreed on it. That surely is one way of thinking, but I think Annette made her point in some way, too. Of course there is a huge difference between Annette and Lena regarding (1) the intention to fix the ongoing problem and (2) the power of 'will' to motivate that intention. Having (1) and (2) is surely big one, so being 'Lena-like' would be very hard and maybe recommended. However, at the fundamental level, whatever Lena tries to do and how much she wants to fix the problem, she can not 'BE' the 86. That is not her fault, but she is BORN to be not being 86. I think this is what Annette's remark tries to hit. Doing something wrong intentionally may be not the necessary condition for guiltiness. And also, being born with certain status may be the sufficient condition for guiltiness.

The part where they are leaving is a little confusing. Not sure if it's intentional but the translation is ambiguous. Like when Raiden says to Lena "Talk to you later, Major. Hope you can do this with the next ones, too", it sounds like he means the next Legion they encounter. I watched this with German subs first and there he says something like "Farewell, Major. Take care of the next ones, too.", making it a little more obvious that he is talking about the next group of 86 that comes after them.

Alexiel Knight

Masterpiece of a show with an amazing adaption.

Nasty

Carli I felt the exact same way as you. This show is amazing but I was SO emotional the whole time I was watching it. Love your reactions! Your both amazing!

Stories thru art

You guys have touched on it lightly, but as Anju (Snowwitch) is my favorite character, I just want to clarify; the tattoo on her back isn't a tattoo its a scar, that was presumably carved into her by other 86 in previous units/or a camp, it reads "whores daughter" likely referring to her mixed blood that has been mentioned a couple times.

Episode 8 There is revelation that anime hints at. The the earlier episodes we in Annette's office pictures of her suitors that her coworkers posted. When asked her reply was "So I will not forget". What they were getting at was that since Annette had an 86 as best friend that no guy her age would ever marry her. She would either need to settle for a desperate old man or a kid who was too young to know her friendship. This is how deep the racism in San Magnolia ran. Annette's story is sad one.

Essentially at the end, the group was moving beyond the range of the para-raid and what the Republic has scouted. Lena could hear them at the end but they couldn't hear her as the signal died. The group is now beyond the reach of the Republic

Raden

Episode 9 Shin mentioned to Lena once that he doesn’t remember his family anymore. When the scribbles lifted, he was finally able to remember his brother’s face and voice. The OST that was playing when Shin got back up is called The Answer, would love it if you guys reacted to it with lyrics. Bring some more tissues for the next one.

Handler One

Random but Ange you've been putting on some size to those arms!! Looking good brother keep up the good work. P.s Carlie is as beautiful as always

Guts

So Anette's neighbor was a family with two boys, one roughly Anette/Lena's age with particularly strong psychic powers. That's Shin. That's the boy Anette used to play with. Also, random detail, the Skeleton Knight is a book, likely read to him by his brother when he was little, whose cover became Shin's Reaper symbol.

Sharles Davis Kendy

She wasn't thinking honestly...

Sharles Davis Kendy

No matter how many times I see it, the scene where Lena confronts Annette gives me chills. How often do you get to see the heroine shot as villainess, tempting someone? Of course episode 9 is just packed with iconic Lena moments, how many characters get to slap someone with an artillery strike?

Charles Baldwin

It might be me bringing an American context into it, but even already knowing about the charms, when I saw the five of them hanging I got big lynching\strange fruit vibes.

Charles Baldwin

The show doesn't make a big deal about it, but all the previous indefinite recon missions only ever had 1 or 2 'processors' at the most. So, the fact that Lena's group had 5 is a bit of a testament to her commitment to actually trying to keep everyone alive. At least, that's how I interpreted it, one could also argue that it had more to do with Shin basically being both the Levi and Eren of the 86 universe

Episode 8 Anette sees Lena doing everything she can to help the Eighty Six and it’s a constant reminder that Anette could have done something, but didn’t because she was scared of the consequences. She didn’t want her dad to shelter her childhood friend and his family in the beginning of the war and she didn’t insist on bringing Undertaker in when the handlers were having problems. She just keeps telling herself that anything she can do wouldn’t matter in the end, yet here’s Lena doing everything she can even though she keeps striking out. Rei’s, Shin’s brother, actions were never explained well in the anime so here’s some context. He went all crazy on Shin because in the beginning everyone believed the lie about being able to earn their rights back with military service so their father went first believing his family was safe and died. When nothing happened after he died the Republic told their mom it’s because she has two kids so she volunteered for Shin’s rights, which explains why his brother blamed him for their mother’s death. Right after their mom died Rei’s conscription notice came with her death notice and it messed him up. Shin was just there at a bad time and at an age that didn’t understand how death works so his question about their mom just set him off. Rei at the time was just a teenage kid that just lost both his parents and then was told it’s his turn to die now. His life was spiraling out of control and he was powerless to stop it.

Oh what?!!! He’s gotta be one of our favourites now for sure. He was Shirogane from Kaguya Sama as well

Carlie & Ange

Kurie's family was from this universes version of Japan/Far East, Kurena says she taught them that tradition.

Aaron Wright

They do call the radio interference bugs from the legion as “rain”

Night Sterling

Those hanged dolls are 'teru teru bozu', a charm to stop the rain. You saw Bocchi and her crew made them before. It's supposed to be a somewhat cute wholesome moment but who knows it could have a double meaning in this particular show, I have no idea.

Decaf

Just a reminder. The show have a lot of symbolism and foreshadowing throughout the show. Some are relevant to the story and some are just cool details. It makes the story better once you get to know the small little detail the put in the show. There is a youtuber called ctrlaltQQ made a 3 part video explaining most of them. Check it out if you can. If you decide to watch or even react to it, watch part one after the first cour (episode 11) and part 2 and 3 after you finish the rest of the show. The video title is 86 Eighty Six - Details, Symbolism Explained!

Melvin Lee

Its also physically, the 86th district for its in universe reason. The rest of the republic being broken into 85 districts.

Aaron Wright

I dont think it has any actual effect on the range of the para-raid, but its definitely what she was thinking, yeah

Aaron Wright

I think the reason Lena was running was because she wanted to stay in transmission range of the Para-RAID for longer and was also overtaken by emotions in the moment.

asli hassan

They were on Special Recon orders, to advance away from the Republic into legion held space indefinitely. The red space indicates the distance the Para-raid can no longer reach, and the space the Republic has no awareness of, aka, legion territory. At the start of Episode 8 she looked at all the final orders from previous Spearhead squadrons and any survivors were always sent on a final mission into unknown, never to be heard from again. So as they are moving toward it, they are leaving district 86, but in the other direction, into the part of the continent held by the legion, and they're never allowed to return. The Special Recon Orders were to advance into Legion territory until wiped out, returning to the Republic is punishable by execution. Shin said they are going east because "he can't hear any legion voices that way, after a certain point." Lena was just running because everyone she cared about was leaving, and she was just having all these emotions, so what can she do. When she said "Don't Leave me!", its because she knew theyd never return and she wouldnt be able to speak with them again Raiden said "Make sure you do this with the next lot." as in, take care of the next squadron after us, goodbye.

Aaron Wright

Shin's Brother's voice actor is Saitama btw

Ordinary Guy

That is why the title of the series is 86. It generally means to get rid of someone or something in real life if you search wikipedia. In other words, to execute like what is happening to them. So, district 86 is actually an execution ground.

Ordinary Guy

Contemplating using my entire lunch break to watch these. These episodes are just way too hype

FTN Chicken
