2023-11-22 10:42:52 +0000 UTCI've seen multiple volleyball players mention that putting that much spin is dubious at best, but doing it without breaking the rules of volleyball isn't possible.

2023-10-22 06:21:15 +0000 UTCOn 2x8: I think you will not find many people who disagree that Tsukki'a arc is one of the best god damned arcs in the show. And it's a slooooow burn. So on his brother, there is a limit to how many players are allowed on the bench. Which means his brother wasn't even good enough to make it to the bench. Ouch. I love the Moon imagery this episode. We start with the Moon hidden by the clouds, but then after Yamaguchi talked to him, the clouds leave. And then in the end, the Moon is out during the day, competing with the Sun. Hinata and Tsuki are competitors because they both play the same position. They're both middle blockers. The final scene, everyone was shocked because Tsukki scared the shit out of #4. Remember that before during training he just tooled the ball right off Tsukki's hands with little trouble, but THIS time he knew he couldn't get past him and was forced to change his spike into a feint.

2023-10-21 16:05:51 +0000 UTCRight!!!! I've watched plenty of reactions in the 6 years that I've been a fan of this show, and I pretty much know what to expect atp (in terms of investment in characters and plot), so watching these reactions was like a breath of fresh air.
emma
2023-10-21 14:14:01 +0000 UTCI said the same thing about their reactions. Well above the norm...
googlek1 .
2023-10-21 14:08:30 +0000 UTCI'm loving these reactions... I don't know if it's because there are two of you but the analysis and close predictions are above the norm. Yet, you will still be surprised. Haikyuu writers know how to get you attached to the characters so when your boy or girl does something... oh.. you're going to have a fit, talking smack, to back them up. Yelling and clapping at the screen, like you're at the actual game. This training arc is made to get you like that.

2023-10-21 14:03:35 +0000 UTCNot really a spoiler but Kuroo and Bokuto will be crucial to Tsukki’s growth and development. Cool detail is how all three characters represent the night: Kuroo - Black Cat Bokuto - Night Owl Tsukki - Moon In a way, it explains why Tsukki is more drawn to them compared to his relationship with Karasuno. ☺️

2023-10-21 09:36:29 +0000 UTCI actually would have given the MVP to Yamaguchi on that last episode. He confronted Tsukki and reignited something in him.

2023-10-21 02:09:24 +0000 UTCYou know... I've rewatched this show many times, but I can't believe I never noticed the symbolism in the scenes where Karasuno run up the hills. Nice catch, Ange. I think it depicts the team's will to improve beyond their current capabilities, and evolve into a functioning team with the proper skillsets. To add onto that thought, I love how, similar to the nature of crows, they're observing and picking up skills from all of the different teams they've seen and making them their own weapon, slowly building an arsenal of different moves. While I love all of the seasons of this show, I think S2 takes the cake for me. This season is where I really fell in love with the series.

2023-10-20 22:20:45 +0000 UTCGoated reactions as usual😁 your character analysis are top notch and I love how invested y'all are (especially because this is one of my favourite Shows not just anime period). Tetsurou is usually referred to as Kuroo (his last name) btw and the fourth guy in the gym with him Bokuto and Tsukki is Akaashi, Fukurodani's setter (this is just me trying to help you guys remember the names of the other teams better haha). 🫶
emma
2023-10-20 21:37:50 +0000 UTCS2 is my fav. season because of how it calls back to S1 moments, expands on them, and how well it connects/pays-off even in future seasons. That flashback scene to S1 was when Tsukki said that while Hinata's rotated to the back, it's his job to keep trouble from happening (block attacks). The way he said it sounds like he's there just as a placeholder or a supporting player for their ultimate decoy. Now that he's more willing to try , as players of the same position, that dormant rivalry has officially begun xD

2023-10-20 18:50:13 +0000 UTCFootics!!! I used to call it like that too for the longest time! But fun fact, in Japanese "foot" is "ashi" so it's a reference on the actual sports wear brand "Asics" (it's got a "sh" sound in Japanese). Took me forever to realize

2023-10-20 06:59:20 +0000 UTCi cant be mad at a tsukki pick for mvp but i actually think i mightve given this last episode to yamaguchi! what he said to tsukki outside really pushed him to go talk to bokuto and the others :')

2023-10-20 06:33:32 +0000 UTCNice! Tsukki and Hinata are both middle blockers and yes the rivalry would seem be more realistic with them tahn Kageyama and Hinata. But yeah there was no indication whatsoever cause Tsukki would always fall back being the “moon” behind the “sun” which I liked in part cause he was acknowldging what Hinata could deliver . I love Kuroo and Bokuto being mentors to him. Oya!

2023-10-20 03:19:52 +0000 UTCIt's hilarious when Ange randomly brings up Tanaka lmaoo, "What did Tanaka do?" I want more Tanaka moments too bro And Kuroo got MVP?! Hell Yeah! Most reactors don't pay my favorite side characters this much attention so I was hella hyped when Kuroo got it! Also, I'm usually not a fan of "training arcs" but I really enjoy the practice matches in this show, they bring so many great characters together whereas in official matches it's only two teams which limits character interaction. These episodes just feel so wholesome and are really fun to watch 😊 Glad you guys are enjoying them!

2023-10-20 03:04:03 +0000 UTCGuy's haikyu is one of the anime in which openings are a big part of it as they rile you up even more and get you pumped for the allready hype action. I would like to suggest that you watch/react to each haikyu opening atleast after each season ends (incase you want to avoid spoilers), because if you watch them all together then the earlier ones lose thier shine and become somewhat irrelevant. Thankyou

2023-10-20 00:46:09 +0000 UTCTo clarify what Ukai Senior was saying about tempo: It's all about when the spiker starts their approach vs. when the setter makes the toss. First tempo: The spiker starts their running approach BEFORE the toss goes up (making the time from toss to spike very fast). Second tempo: The spiker starts their running approach AT THE SAME TIME the toss goes up. Third tempo: The spiker starts their running approach AFTER the toss goes up (which gives the most time for the spiker to see where the ball is going and adjust, but also gives the defending blockers more time to get into position and block). A lot of the time, wing spikers like Asahi will do the slower tempos, especially if the receive was wonky and might make for a harder toss. They wait to see where the toss is going before they start the running approach into their jump. On the other hand, middle blockers often do the quicker tempos in order to throw off the defense and outspeed any blockers. This is one big reason they put Hinata in the middle blocker position, so he could be an effective decoy and be in a good position for quicks.

Clément Creton
2023-10-19 23:01:56 +0000 UTCSomething to note from a ex-volleyball player: It's way easier to get the ball past the blocker when you're fainting(spiker dump) instead of spiking, but you're way less likely to score unless the enemy isn't expecting a faint, since it packs way less of a punch. For this reason "fainting" can often be seen as "running away", since it's likely that the spiker was way too scared of the blockers to do the aggressive play (spiking), which would be the most likely to score if it got past the block. PS: The ideia was share some insight on Akashi's comment on the end of episode 8, after Bokuto used a faint to dodge Tsuki's block.

2023-10-19 22:09:59 +0000 UTCThe payoff of Tsukki's ark is one of my favorites in the whole series, looking forward to it
Tom H
2023-10-19 20:57:57 +0000 UTCThe really sad part is that Tsukki's brother is actually a very good player, being the ace of a middle school team and shown when he's able to receive the ball straight into the basketball hoop. The Karasuno roster at that time was just so deep that even someone as skilled and passionate as him was relegated to not even suiting up during games. Tsukki's attitude of "if I don't really invest in it, I don't have to worry about being devastated if it doesn't work out" is pretty common, and a bit relatable. If I tell myself I wasn't that serious about it in the first place, failure has a much smaller impact.
Jake Thompson
2023-10-19 20:26:41 +0000 UTC3 EPs!! Thanks! You're right, ACE is not a position, it's like a title, and it's typically given to the spiker who usually scores the most points. On the field, you normally have 3 spikers: -2 Outside Hitters (they hit from the left side of the court) [Asahi & Tanaka (that's why they always say LEFTOOO XD)] -1 Opposite Hitter (He hits from the right side of the court) [Daichi] Out of these 3, Asahi scores the most, so he's the ACE. Simple.

2023-10-19 20:24:43 +0000 UTCI don't think you guys are ready for how satisfying Tsukki's character arc will feel from now on and in s03. God I love it so much. Also I just noticed for the first time a few music cues that they used in this episode that come back in crucial moments in the future and link Yamaguchi and Tsukki together even more. I'm gonna cry 🥹🥲🥲
Stefano
2023-10-19 20:14:08 +0000 UTCOh thank goodness you got eps 7 and 8 together. They land much better like that! Tsukki is the slowest burn, but the payoff is so totally worth it. Can't wait to see how you react to his development throughout the rest of the series!
Rae
2023-10-19 20:11:48 +0000 UTCJust to clarify about Tsukki's story with his brother: Tsukki didn't blame his brother for lying, he actually felt guilty because he thinks it's his huge expect on his brother that made his brother have to lie. Back then Tsukki thinks volleyball is very important and means everything to his brother, so after finding out the truth he changed his mind to "it's just a club" and became calm on everything. I think there's a little translate problem during mid episode 8 and caused this confusion. The part right after the backstory where Tsukki's walking down the hall and having some thoughts saying "It was only a club, but it was everything to my brother", the right translation is actually "It was only a club, but back then I thought it was everything to my brother." I think this part really adds to Tsukki's character, after all he still loves his brother and deep down still idolize him, but he just tried to hold back these feelings (also like for volleyball, he really do love it), and stay calm to avoid being hurt.
Ariadne
2023-10-19 19:31:33 +0000 UTCjust to clarify for tsukki's bro: he was the ace in middle school, but never got to play as a member of karasuno because there were so many good, and talented, players. so all of high school he was lying to tsukki when he wasn't even on the bench :( also, just to add because you mentioned character payoffs - no matter how soon or later it comes, ~every~ character has a satisfying moment! And i think that's just a testament to how incredible the writing is!!
Maxine
2023-10-19 19:21:27 +0000 UTCAlso also what Ange is reading as "Dics" is actually a nod to the brand "Asics". Basically everyone in this show wears Asics shoes. That's because both the brands Asics and Mikasa sponsored Haikyuu. That's why you see all the "Dics"(asics) apparel and why all the balls are Mikasa style balls.
Smash Bran'Discootch
2023-10-19 19:20:30 +0000 UTCtsuki's writing is not out of this world but, i just love it so much, even the detail in his name and hinatas is so special to me, their dynamic as rivals is well constructed. i agree with tsuki as mvp but we need to give some credit to my boys yamaguchi and bokuto too, yamaguchi truly is the friend we all wished we had, and i may be a little biased with bokuto since he's my favorite character but i love his little speech in this episode haha
beannie
2023-10-19 18:56:18 +0000 UTCJust to be clear on Tsukki and Hinata rivalry, their positions on the team both as middle blockers naturally sets them up as rivals but the reason the rivalry hasn't been main focus until now is BECAUSE of Tsukki inferiority to Hinata, in his mind he's already decided he's lost so he hasn't ever really tried.

2023-10-19 18:21:17 +0000 UTCMy heart stopped when I saw you posted 3 episodes all at once. What a treat! Great reactions as always!
Ginta Liepiņa
2023-10-19 18:17:04 +0000 UTCBruh, it's entirely possible. It's simple physics. I think you just don't understand the explanations of what's going on. The spin of the ball has a massive effect on the trajectory of a ball. Putting a back spin on the ball arrests its forward momentum. Combine that with controlling the amount of force you're applying to the ball and it is not only entirely possible, but also pretty standard. Its not a double touch because Kageyama is only touching the ball once; his fingers are putting the back spin on the ball as he's setting.
Smash Bran'Discootch
2023-10-19 18:16:04 +0000 UTCIf Kageyama put enough horizontal force on the ball to get it to the spot quickly enough to be 1st tempo, the backspin would cause the ball to carry long and rise, not stop and fall. It's exactly what you said, a magnus effect, which is when the rotation of the ball causes a lower pressure on the top surface, allowing the ball to stay airborne and travel horizontally longer. I have a lot of experience with this playing tennis and table tennis, as well as playing as a setter in college and trying this exact thing with some friends while goofing around.

Edward Michaelle
2023-10-19 17:49:52 +0000 UTCisnt it technically possible. i dont know about double touch rules. but putting that much back spin in a fast ball will create a magnus effect
baja
2023-10-19 17:35:51 +0000 UTCSoooooo to clarify on "The Toss That stops", it didn't have anything to do with Tempo. Tempo is just how quickly the spikers begin their running approach. The water bottles were set up for Kageyama to measure distance. The toss that stops is all about how much power kageyama uses and how much of a backspin he puts on the ball. The way Kageyama has been tossing has been going through hinata's point of impact meaning that Hinata isn't able to spike it as hard as he can because he is needing to arrest the sideways momentum and turn it into forward momentum. If kageyama puts enough of a backspin on the ball, it will slow in mid air and stop, canceling the sideways trajectory of the ball entirely and allowing all of the force he is applying to his spike to be directed forward, meaning the ball will travel faster making it much harder to pick up.
Smash Bran'Discootch
2023-10-19 17:30:12 +0000 UTCto be clear, the tempo is referring to the time difference between when the hitter starts running and the setter passes the ball, second tempo being both of them happening at the same time. first tempo they are already getting ready to jump. what hinata is kageyama was doing is in another league. hinata is already in the air spiking when kageyama is passing. its not even 0 tempo at this point
baja
2023-10-19 17:29:47 +0000 UTCtsukki is just being on defensive mode because of ptsd, so his brother has been an ace in his junior high and tsukki was so proud of his brother too. but as his brother went to karasuno who was like a powerhouse with lots of students playing volleyball, meaning there will also be aces from junior high like him would have come to karasuno and may be he wasnt able to be a regular even a benchwarmer because a lot of better players were there, for eg, little giant. his brother was good, he was an ace in his junior high days afterall but he was not good enough to be a regular of karasuno. and he knew his lil bro looked up to him very much and he wouldnt want to let him down by him not being in the regulars which lead to this mess

Bibi
2023-10-19 17:07:36 +0000 UTCSo usually, a powerhouse school team would always have some of the significant play trait, like nekoma being on perfect defense, shinzen on combo and stuff. With karasuno, they might also have one when they have little giant and soaring high in nationals back then. but now that karasuno is not a powerhouse anymore and they dont have to live up to a certain expectations or specific plays, nekoma coach saying 'crows are omnivorous' meaning karasuno right now can take any type of play from other teams and make it their own.
bebe
2023-10-19 16:52:34 +0000 UTCThis mini-arc is always rough for me, because the show does so well with staying true to realistic volleyball and then decides to break physics with the "stopping toss" stuff... Not only would it never actually work, it would definitely be called a double touch by every single referee on the face of the planet and Karasuno would instantly lose the point every time. Luckily they kinda just stop mentioning it after this...
