2023-09-25 05:51:30 +0000 UTC"I could sum up the characterization and motivations for each of those characters in a single sentence." And i can do the same for every single strawhat, heck im sure i'd be able to for a majority of the characters in the entire show, so by your logic, all of it is badly written?

2023-09-25 05:50:43 +0000 UTCIf you guys want more pirate stuff in the future, i highly highly recommend the show Black Sails. It is one of the greatest written shows of all time and truly incredible. Only 4 seasons as well. I really hope you check it out sometime.

2023-09-21 12:45:24 +0000 UTCI can sum up eren’s motivations in a sentence too. That doesn’t mean he’s poorly written. The only thing I agree with in what you said earlier is the fights , and maybe the designs. I’ve always heard “oda doesn’t know how to draw female characters”. Not that he can’t write them. That’s something you hear a lot from kishimoto’s fandom. Agree to disagree I guess

2023-09-21 12:05:55 +0000 UTCTo be honest you’re just giving us vague generalizations without specifically telling us what makes the individual characters mentioned in this convo badly written characters lol. I dont really keep up with one piece anymore but even I can agree some of their female characters (Nami, Robin, Vivi, etc.) are pretty damn well written female characters especially for a shonen. I’m just curious, what makes a well-written female character to you? Honestly asking, cause instead of trying to put yourself above these fanboys then why don’t you give us your input on what good female writing should be?

2023-09-21 11:53:06 +0000 UTCWhy are you picking one specific thing out of everything that I said to hyperfocus on. The point is it's a battle Shonen and as such at least one female character should be able to have as much skin in the game as everyone else, to use a colonialism. It's pretty obvious that you aren't trying to participate in the conversation, just looking for something to disagree with 🙄 This is why it's impossible to have a conversation with fanboys. You ignore any criticism regardless of the validity.

2023-09-21 04:15:14 +0000 UTCWhy is "must fight someone for 20 chapters" an indicator for whether a character is good or not? Is Zoro the best character because he unga bungas a lot?

2023-09-21 04:11:53 +0000 UTCI do however think that the bigger problem is that: 1. women in One Piece have too similar character design (especially when compared to the rest of the cast). And 2. there are way less "iconic" women that have that presence that steals the show every time they are on screen (characters like Shanks, Mihawk, Roger, Whitebeard, Blackbeard, Doflamingo, any of the admirals, etc.)

2023-09-20 23:25:05 +0000 UTCWhile I do agree that the female cast of One Piece is 10 times weaker than their male counterparts, I disagree that there are no good female characters (Robin, Nami, Big Mom, Vivi, Bell-mère, Otohime, etc.).

2023-09-20 23:13:10 +0000 UTCI could sum up the characterization and motivations for each of those characters in a single sentence. That isn't good writing. There's a difference between "Likeable" characters and "Well written" characters. And there's nothing wrong with liking a poorly written character. There are tons of poorly written characters that are extremely likeable. But liking them also doesn't make them well written. If you can say everything important about a character in a single sentence, they aren't well written. If their motivations are entirely dependent on other characters' actions and/or motivations, they aren't a well written character.

2023-09-20 19:15:04 +0000 UTC....One of the biggest and most repeated complaints throughout all the tears one piece has existed is that Oda doesn't write female characters well. He doesn't give them proper adversaries to fight, there's no real growth, and none of them have any real depth. Kuina is a perfect microcosm for Oda's style.

2023-09-20 18:47:29 +0000 UTCThere’s a lot of well written female characters in one piece though. Kuina just isn’t one of them

2023-09-20 18:44:08 +0000 UTCYeah despite Zoro being my absolute favorite, he does unfortunately have one of the weakest backstories imo. The promise is cool and something to keep him going, but definitely not as fleshed out as other backstories. Doesn't stop me from loving him tho ;)

2023-09-20 16:36:15 +0000 UTCSooo in the manga, the day that Kuina and Zoro decide to train together, Kuina falls down some stairs and dies. Like...I'm not joking. I WISH I were joking. It's the classic "Oda doesn't know how to write female characters as anything more than one dimensional plot devices so he kills them off or writes them out of the story a lot" trope that youll find pretty prevalent in One Piece 🤣
