I think violating a Heavenly Pact does actually negate the benefits, which is why Mechamaru saved up his 17 years of accumulated cursed energy to expend in this single battle, but I'm not entirely sure because I don't think anyone else has ever done anything about their Heavenly Pact.

2023-09-02 07:23:58 +0000 UTCSo about Binding Vows and Cursed Techniques: So far we've seen an example of 4 types of Binding vows and applications of cursed energy manipulation in this series so far. When you make a pact a or binding vow you are setting up a curse or cursed energy with a set of instructions to set off if certain parameters are met. It's a deal of give and take. The first one is a Binding vow with oneself where you restrict yourself to gain something else. This is the most harmless if you break your vow you lose what you gain. It's kind of like a diet. Nanami Kento does this to himself where he made a binding vow with his cursed energy that he restricts himself to roughly 80% percent of his cursed energy at all times of the day. The benefit he gains however is that if he is forced to use his cursed energy past 6:00 PM a.k.a his over time then he gets 120% output. The second being a devils deal kind of contract; the binding vow with someone else. As Getou explained it's a way for 2 parties to get what they want from each other without either group pulling a fast one as the consequence for either group failing to uphold their end of the deal ends with severe and unknown consequences. It's a full blown curse in a sense. Sukuna forced Yuji into one of these inside of Yuji's soul somewhere around S1ep4-5. The deal was that at any time Sukuna could use a special phrase that would allow him to switch places with Yuji for a short time and that Yuji forgets about the deal in exchange that while Sukuna has Yuji's body under this condition that he is not allowed to hurt anybody. If Sukuna hurts anybody under this switch he would suffer massive consequences. Yuji in this situation can't pull back on his agreement even if he wanted to because he can't remember it. The third pact is the Heavenly restriction. This is completely one sided with the fates and heavens deciding the conditions of the pact where one experiences loss and proportional gain. The more you lose the more you gain. Maki and Toji lost all their cursed energy in exchange for super human bodies and senses. Mechamaru lost his skin, most of his right arm, and all function below the waist for massive amounts of Cursed energy and the functioning radius of his cursed technique expanded to the entirety of Japan. Finding a way to gain back what was lost in the heavenly restriction does not invalidate what is gained, as the target didn't agree to it in the first place, and was technically under a punishment anyways. This pact is also not always severe as explained by Yuki, the Special Grade Sorcerer that talked to Getou. It can range from not noticeable to debilitating. The forth version is a revision of the first Binding vow but with one's cursed techniques instead. You can apply binding vows to barriers in order set up an effect or parameters in which tweak your cursed techniques. An example of this is the Kyoto event where the enemy applied a binding vow to the barrier, which normally keeps everyone out, to allow anyone and everyone to enter but strictly prohibits Gojo Sataru. This was done to make up for it's lack of power as anyone given enough time or energy can break through a barrier like how Yuji broke Mahito's Domain expansion from outside. A regular barrier would, in that instance, be like paper machete to Gojo. Therefore it's regular functions were abandoned in order to increase the time to keep Gojo out from 1 sec to about 10 minutes. Speaking of barriers and Domain Expansion, the DE is an advanced form of integrating one's cursed technique and barriers using a binding vow. They graft the CT on to the barrier forming the Domain Expansion in exchange for all their cursed energy and a sure hit kill to anything caught within the barrier. Gojo explains most of this and the loss of CE is shown when Mahito's DE collapsed.

2023-09-01 19:19:27 +0000 UTCWhat Geto tried to explain to Mahito is that if you have a pact with yourself (to gain an ability in exchange of sacrificing something), the consequence of breaking it will be something like losing your power or the positive ability you gained from the pact. However, if you make a pact with someone else (like what they did with Mechamaru), then the consequence of breaking it is much worse and unpredictable, that's why they had to actually fix him. I'm not a manga reader so I don't know if my theory is right, but I feel that Ozawa (the girl who likes Yuuji) is dealing with some sort of curse... that's just too much of a change for 6 months!! maybe she made some deal with a curse technique user because she overheard that Yuuji likes tall girls? Idk... My MVP is probably Nobara, she was very funny this episode π

2023-09-01 18:01:33 +0000 UTCTo clarify (no spoilers), as long as Mahito knows the "shape" of someone's or his own soul, he can freely change his or someone else's form, e.g., turn humans into curse like creatures or even give Kokichi Muta (Mechamaru) a new body. It's also important to know that Mahito's technique is different from Reverse Cursed Technique which Shoko uses to heal, as it can only heal tissue.
