2023-08-14 03:08:00 +0000 UTCAs a funny side note, I'll explain the name-related jokes a little. Dong Geurami's name basically means 'circle', which is kind of funny. And then there's her grandfather, Dong Wonbin (Wonbin is a famous Korean actor so it's like having your grandfather named 'Tom Cruise' haha). Her Dad and his brothers are literally named 'Number 1', 'Number 2', 'Number 3' lol. Either way, I love that Dong Geurami accepts and appreciates Youngwoo just the way she is. Her and Youngwoo's Dad have had the longest relationships with her so they portray the ways they've found to support her i.e. what works for them. They're not forceful and they don't make her see things their way because they're right or she's being stubborn etc. They create opportunities for Youngwoo to grow and learn herself through firsthand experience.

2023-08-13 22:03:02 +0000 UTCYou're on the bandwagon to love the cast like the rest of us 😀 I like that they use the other people around Youngwoo to show different ways people can learn to understand and appreciate her or guide her. For example, Attorney Jung Myeongseok has a playful, gentle way of being very warm even when what he says at face value seems strict e.g. he tells her off for not following procedure properly so he can't process her resignation or that she has no leave left anymore or he is 'just about to process her resignation' when she walked in to cancel it. More than that, they also show how he gives credit where it's due and stands firmly in defense of Youngwoo when Attorney Kwon questions things, and suggests for Attorney Kwon to learn from Youngwoo rather than criticise or just see her as 'disabled'. Then they also show someone like Lee Junho, who is tentatively learning about Youngwoo and still getting some things 'wrong' as in his actions don't 'land' in the way he expects or wants them to. I actually like that they didn't show his gift because it puts the audience in his position of feeling disappointed...but what he does with that is he doesn't make Youngwoo feel bad just to feel better himself. Instead, he shows how thoughtful he is and thinks about how to do something she'll appreciate more even if to him, it would not have the same impact...so he shows her the whale swimming freely in the artwork. He's clearly heard what she said about how aquariums are like jails and she wants sea creatures to be free. The show does all these things subtly without just forcing us to accept views on Autism or where society has fallen short. Instead it offers examples of how we can be better...and we can feel how much these people and these actions affect Youngwoo without forcing her to fit our standards or expectations...and that they feel rewarded in return even if they don't hear 'thank you' from her.

They don't feel like just supporting characters. Everyone is important here. I enjoyed every minute of this show and I am so glad I can revisit it together with you two now! Your faces alone show that this is a show for you! 😍😉
