I can't count how many times I watched this by myself and with you reactors and episode 7 and 10 still makes me bawl.

Episode 7 and 10 always rock my shit so hard and I just had to see how you guys took it and to see if Ange finally broke. I don't know why but these stories of parents either losing their children or missing out on being there for them hits me harder than anything else in this anime. Like Carlie I started sniffing as soon as I saw Ann (again) and had to fight throughout the episode. The same happened in episode 7 (which I like a bit more).

Having said that, the first thing I did when I finished ep 10 for the first time was calling up my mother to tell her how much I love her and how much she means to me. Episode 10 makes you realize for a moment how important your parents are. We don't always think about it but this episode tells you that you should love them while you have the chance.

2023-10-05 17:08:31 +0000 UTCRegarding Ange's thought at the end, whether the episodes hits even harder if you've lost your parents...Fortunately my dad is still alive and well, but I lost my mom to cancer when I was 17 years old. Episode 10 always hits a little too close to home for me. There are times when I regret not spending more time with my mom, because now I'd give anything to talk to her a little or just see her face smiling at me. It's been more than 5 years now since her passing and I still have lots of regrets. Seeing Ann getting to spend time with her mom before her passing always makes me super happy and super depressed at the same time. Watching episode 10 is always like a bittersweet experience for me. It's such a beautiful episode but I also always kind of fall into a hole afterwards and need to cry a little more. This comment is kind of my way to distract myself a little right now so I don't start crying again hahaha

OK he was still alive in the flashback but come on, the guy took a shot to the eye and was left behind in a place that got bombed and reduced to ruins immediately after. Surviving getting shot in the eye isn't impossible but the chances are ridiculously low and what can I say about being exploded later as well. It's unrealistic enough that Violet survived the bombing just because he pushed her away. You'd need to have luck as your superpower to make it from that. But more importantly, Violet already mourned him and used his teachings and his loss as fuel to grow as a person and took her time to accept it, so it would not only undermine this but also feel like a betrayal to her. And to us, who got invested in a character and had to accept his death as well. It's always better to give a character a good sendoff than forcing a far-fetched "resurrection", especially if the character had already fulfilled their purpose and serves the plot and the themes better dead than alive. I personally hate it and feel insulted when they make you get attached to a character and go through their death only to know later that all of that was fake. There's nothing there that needs to be fleshed out further at this point and if you want to do it you can do it through other characters who were close to him and make the audience connect more with them. Undoing and negating all of that for no clear goal when the death is more meaningful and the survival is unbelievable is always a terrible idea IMO. Just let characters die, this is a mature show. And I'm well aware of what the show is about, it's not like it's even hard to comprehend. Don't give me that crap just because I don't share your opinion.

2023-08-09 14:27:14 +0000 UTCConsidering the fact that he wasn’t dead when Violet last saw him, and the fact that his dog tags were the only thing to be found, there’s really no reason why he couldn’t be alive. Him surviving wouldn’t undermine anything. The entire point of Violet’s journey has been to understand her emotions and what it means to love someone. I feel like you really missed a lot of what this story was about. And Gilbert’s character has been far from fleshed out at this point.

Then, the sad part hit 😭 Remember when I said I tend to cry during my rewatches versus my initial watch... I couldn't see my damn screen with my puddle eyes in the second half. Such a bitter sweet ending. 50 years worth of birthday letters. That's insane, yet so sweet. The mom thought of the best way she can to stay with her daughter without physically being there. Ange, pass me that tape measure. I need it to measure the hole in my chest rn

Carlie hit it at the end, every episode has something that anyone can relate to. Violet Evergarden is just as much about loss as it is about love, and the best way to describe is "beautiful pain." This show opens up old wounds and then sews them shut with pure kindness.

I watched VE a long time ago so I forgot some of the events, and I'm actually rewatching it now with you guys. Can't wait for the next episodes :)

Not to mention, it would be very unrealistic given the situation Gilbert was in, so it would undermine the show's credibility as well. Sometimes it's more meaningful to just let characters go.

And then they cone up with an actual heartwarming ending, but instead of making you feel better, it kills you even more!! This show is something special for sure .🧡😭
