Vinland Saga 2x23 REACTION!

Anime of the year. Hands down

Vinland Saga 2x23 REACTION!

Comments

My interpretation of birds flying together, leaving a place where they can no longer live and migrating to a new place where they can prosper, is very symbolic of Thorfinn's new purpose/atonement of finding/building Vinland for those who cannot live in Canute's world that he's trying to build. This is Peakland saga, the writing in this anime is chef's kiss!

I wonder why they're making us wait for one episode.

Since we are coming to an end to one of the greatest seasons I have ever watched I would love to recommend an amazing anime. It's called Haikyuu and it's my favorite anime after attack on titan. It is so hyped and have amazing characters and moments. It's also a different genre of anime so it will definitely diversify your anime experience as well as garner a lot of fans.

I just simply see it as birds can represent freedom and not being held down to one place and held back because they can fly through the skies. Birds are shown to represent this type of thing in other anime as well. Its a giant flock of birds going toward freedom and not being held down and moving forward. Representing Thorfinn wanting to bring people to freedom and moving forward.

"Somewhere not here" repeatedly mentioned. The very first episode was called "Somewhere not here". The very last words said in this episode. "Somewhere not here". Just a cool thing to keep in mind.

This is the last chapter in manga, but for a bigger cliffhanger, the last episode will be with the start of Arc 3. Will be 2 more seasons of this show.

Adam it makes more sense when you notice that Canute feels isolated and he can absolutely trust no one other than Wulf. He sees that he has no allies and that every one is out to get him, deceive him, and ensnare him and no one comes to him with out some plan B or ulterior motive. It was absolutely refreshing to him when he talks to Thorfin and realizes he's not alone in his dream and ambition and there are truly honest yet strong people like Thorfin looking to the same horizon. That's what I got from that outburst of laughter when he realizes he's completely off guard in a position he's never been in before; in the presence of an earnest and honest fool who just wants to tell him "no don't do that." In retrospect, Thorfin has always been an earnest and honest fool, even in his path of vengeance. This is why Askeladd always said that Thorfinn was an idiot. He's just like his uncle Thorkell in the sense that they are never treacherous in the way they handle problems. They don't scheme, connive, or back stab in pursuit of their goals. Take the all the murderous rage out of Thorfinn and his honesty shows itself in a different way.

I’m thinking that the birds during the amazing ‘brother’ scene represent how birds travel across hemispheres during seasonal changes. The birds of the north were travelling south to escape the winter and find the warm summer in the south. I think this is like how Thorfinn told Canute he would run and escape from the Viking world of war and pain Canute would bring about. Like nature, he would keep running from war (winter) until he found a place that he could foster peace (summer).

James Owens

yes but is it really because there's this one person (thorfin) that talked to him so he changed his mind that quick? It went from 100 agression to a 0 in a minute, is it really deescalated that quick after a quick chat? that's my only problem, didn't seem natural

adam

You ask what left there is for the story, but you forget that this season is the actual season 1 of the series and last season was the prelude where much of it Thorfin wasn't really even the main character of most it. In this season Thorfin finds out what it means to be a warrior and the purpose he must set out on. This is just the starting line where Thorfin finds himself in the same position his father was in the first two episodes, one which he longs to find a land of peace, Vinland, but yet at the same time his past is starting to catch up to him. Thorfin may have found renewed purpose and direction in life but it's not going to be easy, as he is the Askeladd to many Thorfins he made along the way in his pursuit of vengeance. So the question is, can he succeed in his goal where many great men like his father and Askeladd failed in their endeavors while at the same time dealing with his past and those that wish to see him dead while keeping his oath? Can he also achieve peace in a world that so dearly wants war? That's what the rest of the series is going to be about.

Canute was going to acquire the farms to pay for the Danish army he was holding onto since that was causing financial burdens, and he held onto this army in fears of some kind of rebellion in England.

James

It actually worked in real life. He actually did that and won the favor of the English people. Remember all these characters are based off of real life people and some of these events are based on descriptions and interpretations of their actions. So in observation the real life Canute disbanded a huge portion of the Danish Army in England, lowered taxes and gained favor amongst the nobles and common people so much that he was considered the true ruler of England by the population and gained many loyal followers in both England and Denmark. His moniker was noted as Canute the fair and just. With so many people satisfied with his rule he didn't need a military presence to squash any dissenters or riots.

CornCobBob

yeah it's just too good to be true, that resolution won't really work that way in real life

adam

yeah fair point, it's just too good to be true, it's like going from 100 agression to a 0 in a second, deescalated quickly

adam

He doesn’t pay for the standing army, he disbands it.

ThaDoubleB

Yes! there is MUCH more manga to be adapted

Xaniss

True, but it makes sense for the series though. Thorfinn was basically speaking to Canute using his old ideals against him. He decided not to listen to Sweyns creepy severed head for once I think that's what it was building to.

dustrr

I don't think it was really a quick switch for Canute for reasons I'll go into, but I do think their is a fair criticism that Canute's root problem isn't actually resolved and we never learn what alternative he may take. I don't think Canute wanted to take the farm. He saw it as necessary. His speech was about the limits of his power, and how he needs to save (reform) the viking culture before he can create paradise. In that respect I think him finding someone else with the same goal, asking him to reflect on the damage that his actions are actually causing could be enough to get him to stop. But how does he solve his issue of paying for the standing army in england now? We don't know.

blargerer

I laughed when canute laughed lol i understand thorfin's idealism but sometimes it sounds ridiculous, the resolution won't really work that way in real life

adam

where is dragon ball ":D

Ricsson

The manga is apparently nearing its end but there is still a bit of content if they do make more seasons of vinland

Night Sterling

Beautiful episode yet again! So glad you guys enjoyed this as much as I have (and still do). Everything in my power not to be spoiled by reading the manga as I hate the idea of waiting another 3 years or so for the new season. But yea, huge payoffs and a pure, positive message through all the pain and suffering they went through.

Jay P

Do you guys know when we can expect to get the finale uploaded?
