Besides that one great iconic moment, another one that has really stuck with me is Drott's reaction to Thorfinn. Right after Thorfinn provokes Drott to continue, Drott has such a look on his face. There's some awe and fear mixed in, when looking at something so bright and alien to his beliefs and way of life. In this show I love how vikings are not just evil monsters, but humans that respond to all sorts of influences. Including positive ones. Another similar moment I remember is in S1 when some of Askeladd vikings show interest in the teachings of Williwald the priest. Shows that they are not simple minded war freaks. They also are humans in search of purpose. It makes sense that they can be drawn to different outlooks.

2024-10-12 04:56:24 +0000 UTCThe anime just implies what happened later on the farm, but it's really cool. Ketil became miserable and retired so Olmar stepped up big time, gave away half of the families wealth to compensate all the families that suffered losses in the battle. Thorgil just vanished, he never returned and wasn't heard from again. Snake and his men really learned how to actually farm and Sverkel is nagging at them to do it the right way and is probably having the time of his life getting back at Snake that way. :D

2023-07-03 16:23:29 +0000 UTCI think canute’s quick switch up was because he realised he had no need to kill people, he could simply send them to thorfinn. He realised he has to do his best not to make creating a country harder than it needs to be with fighting to save people (like he had to on ketils farm)

2023-07-03 14:03:05 +0000 UTCTruly incredible show, loved both of these episodes. Cannot possibly pick which one I prefer between the two. Nothing made me as emotional as the brother interaction in ep 23

2023-07-03 01:38:33 +0000 UTCEpisode 23 and Episode 9 are probably some of the most captivating and compelling forms of media I've ever seen. The whole "Carve it" sequence is so well crafted. I really didn't understand it's meaning at first, and it's probably pretty obvious or can probably be interpreted in so many ways, I'm just slow sometimes. From my understanding, the sequence was on one hand meant to emphasize everything that's happened this season, but I also think it may have been meant to be breaking the 4th wall a bit, telling us the viewer that the ideals that Thorfinn embodies are something we could all carve into ourselves, others, and essentially everything. It's something that has made such a massive impact on me, this whole season has been extremely moving. Grateful for this anime, because not only is it written so well, but it's such an amazing representation of healthy masculinity. I frequently think about the fact that our minds are often clouded by societal norms and what it means to be a "real man", and I think this anime shows us that none of that truly matters. That we can choose to be kind and compassionate, be open about our emotions and how we feel. That we do not need to suppress everything as a way to prove that we're "tough", and we do not need to resort to violence or anger as a display of superiority, power or strength. True strength, is the shit we just witnessed in this anime.

2023-07-03 00:29:48 +0000 UTCTo answer her question on canutes switch up, in the manga it was all in one go but in the anime, it was spilit up in 2 episodes so it probably looked like he just suddenly changed

2023-07-02 23:41:22 +0000 UTCi just want to know if "the carve it" sequence was originally from the manga or was it new? ... cause it's so good

2023-07-02 21:47:54 +0000 UTCVery interesting fact: the scene of Canute reaching out to control the waves resembles a real moment in history. One version of the story goes, the real king Canute was surrounded by yes-men, nobles and advisors who would endlessly praise him no matter what. He grew tired of their charade and performed his famous “I will now control the tide” sequence to show them that he is not all powerful as they say he is and that there are powers that move the world beyond him. Really love that yukimura fit that into the story in a different albeit clever way. GOAT

2023-07-02 20:27:42 +0000 UTCCant stop the tears every time i watch this episode, such a beautiful and powerful one. One thing I stumbled upon was that there are only 2 kings in English history that were called “The Great” by the people and not by themselves, Alfred and Canute which is really impressive and enhance my pov on Canute

2023-07-02 19:21:23 +0000 UTCAs someone who has read the manga a couple of years ago, I'm so glad I forgot how things progressed and developed throughout the story. I was just as amazed with the anime as I was with the manga, so I feel like I was able to experience this amazing story twice (and it's not even over yet). Last episode, Ange pointed out how Thorfinn's voice sounded like young Thorfinn from season 1, and you're absolutely right. Throughout the entirety of season 2, whenever he spoke, he used different forms of formal speech regardless of who he was speaking to; though, in Einar's case, he used informal speech but he always spoke to him with kindness. After he got sent flying from Drott's punch and Snake tried to convince him to stop, he snapped and went back to his old informal way of speaking. The thing that I love about this detail is that it shows how he has come to embrace his old and current self, speaking with more force like he used to but with more control of his emotions, or at least that's how I interpreted it. I wish I could put into more detail of how Japanese formal/informal speech worked, but that wouldn't be fun for anyone 😅 The payoff this episode was so good though! There were a lot of challenges and painful character deaths throughout the season, but it all lead to our boys' strong ambitions to create a better world. In the season finale, we get a glimpse of our boy looking fresh

2023-07-02 17:07:55 +0000 UTCI think Canute puts a facade in front of his men but wasn't really that reluctant to listen. Still surprised me a little too though.

2023-07-02 17:01:54 +0000 UTCYes, they did a fantastic job with the adaptation I have no complaints because they followed the manga really well

2023-07-02 16:27:54 +0000 UTCI like how they baited us into thinking Canute had completely lost his mind and ways with the whole narcissistic speech just to be like "of course I can't stop the tides, bro, what are you even looking at?" a moment later 🤣

2023-07-02 16:23:21 +0000 UTCCanute remains quite the kind and honorable man after all the cruel things he's done to allow Einar to speak to him like that. Usually in a setting like this, a slave would be brutally executed for calling a king a thief. Canute still allows anyone to speak their mind as an equal in front of him no matter what and I like that.

2023-07-02 16:17:14 +0000 UTCThe schedule is just going to be all over the place for a week or so haha. Some days no videos then 3 the next day. A whole heap of randomness. Which is usually the norm, but it’ll be more than usual 😆

2023-07-02 16:13:53 +0000 UTCPeakland Saga begins! No other show this year has sent chills down my spine like Vinland Saga has. A GOAT that will always be remembered.

2023-07-02 15:59:58 +0000 UTCAnime of the Year. Period.

2023-07-02 15:57:40 +0000 UTCBut why not? AOT only had special episodes aired this year and Vinland had a whole season to be fair. Not taking anything from AOT cause it's a Goated show but Vinland deserves it imo.

2023-07-02 15:57:26 +0000 UTCWow what's this? I thought you were going to take it chill uploading the last episodes. Great!

2023-07-02 15:53:24 +0000 UTCAOT is very good but it doesn't top Vinland for me, especially season 4. But that's just me.

2023-07-02 15:46:54 +0000 UTCI remember so long ago reading the manga and these panels gave me chills like no other. This show is so amazing and I'm glad we can all appreciate it unlike those who dropped it at the start of S2
