I can't think of a way to convey the idea of "I accept" but still translate "wakatta" within the context with a single phrase. @Kawin

In most romance anime/manga that's played straight, confessions goes something like this: 1) One person (usually guy) voices the confession. 2) The other (usually girl) accepts (or rejects). 3) They're now a couple (or now have a story to become a couple). So, here Kaguya confessed and Miyuki accepted without missing a beat. That's the weight of the scene and why Kaguya looked moved in the scene. Because hesitation means doubt (several normal romance anime/manga plays around with this idea). All this time Kaguya thought "You'd have 100% success if you confessed", but now she's discovered that the opposite was also true, all because she took a leap of faith.

He replied "Wakatta" to Kaguya's "Please be my boyfriend", which means "Okay", "I got it", "Understood" etc. it's not "I love you too" or anything lovey dovey, it's a pretty neutral phrase and heavily relies on the tone and how it is said, and his tone was sincere, so actually I'm quite okay with him saying that and I think it is a callback to Kaguya doesn't want things to be too extravagant? That's how I see it😂

2023-06-18 22:00:25 +0000 UTCThey don't really skipped the things that happened in the party. Those were adressed in a flashback after the christmas/first kiss arc in the manga. They adapted almost everything from ch 138 to 159 (this is when the kiss at the end of the movie happened and Miyuki walked her home). After that we had like 3 more minutes left on the movie so no time for start another arc, that's why they just tease us with Tsubame and the date with the final montage and true confession, here is where they "skipped" chapters: 152 to 158, (the date is on ch 159 and 160) but the movie was ending anyways and they fully adapted the main arc. Also, this arc is about Kaguya and Miyuki relationship so I think that It was the right choice to follow the pacing of the manga and how it was intended to be told by Aka Akasaka.

I was taken aback too when I first saw it because I thought it was a gavel and Miyuki zoned in on the internal conflict within her and bought her this present for her to use in order to compose herself whenever she is plagued by all those conflicts.

I always loved your guys' post discussions for Kaguya-sama because it felt like a couple's/marriage counseling session🤣I haven't read the manga since season 1 was first announced years ago, so I don't know what happens beyond this point, but I loved your theory with the scene with Ishigami and Tsubame. Maybe she did accidentally drink alcohol, passed out, and Ishigami came to see if she was alright. Being the nice guy that he is, seems like that'd be something he'd do. Anyway, was a fun watch. Looking forward to the OP/ED's and new show
