LOL Carlie being grossed about by Hohenheim knowing his wife since she was a kid is funny!... it's not like he came onto her or did anything creepy with her as a kid/teenager/young adult even. Him being as old as he is means he quite literally was an old man when EVERYONE who's alive was a child, so.. all things considered, I don't think it's as creepy as something like this happening in our real world lol.

Enjoyed the reaction (including the confusion which made me laugh haha) and your thoughts on the series thus far. I can sympathize with your thoughts on the pacing of the early episodes as I am assuming you haven't seen the original FMA. The main reason it is like that is because as the original FMA was airing it's episodes somewhere in the mid 30s, it caught up to the manga it's based off of, which was still coming out at the time. From there on, it diverged from the manga completely. Once the manga was completed, FMAB adapted the entire original story, but condensed those 30 something episodes (aside from the pilot, which isn't canon) into around 13 to get things rolling quicker, as it assumed most people watching were familiar with FMA. Excited to watch more with you both!

This show is amazing but after getting used to a longer show like this, I really hope you give Avatar, The Last Airbender a chance. It's also a long adventure with an overarching plot, loved by the community and featuring a lot of amazing characters. Feels to me like a fitting show to get into after this. Another classic and got an incredible soundtrack. I know Ange watched some of it when young but watching the whole deal as an adult is a completely different experience and Carlie didn't watch it at all. I'm just gonna keep bothering you about it from time to time until it makes it into a poll someday 🤣

Your favorite characters do change over the course of the series. What I started with was completely different from what I ended with. I remember having gluttony as one of my favs for a 10-12 episode stretch 🤣. I am pretty sure Ange will be updating his Waifu list another 7-8 episodes from now. 🤣

No worries lol you realized that was a dream/symbolic and it is all good. You probably have not watched a lot of recap episodes in those long anime series, basically they are just putting all the cutscenes together but this one actually writes a beautiful storyline for Hohenheim's mind changing and kinda explains why he decides to do all these things now.

in terms of pacing, you guys might have found the first 10 episodes a bit lacking because it was all material previously adapted for the first anime, so they did a bit of a speedrun for those parts so they could get to the new content earlier (for context, hughes dies in ep25 of the original) which really shows in the pacing. i’m glad you guys are enjoying the show and it was super interesting to hear your thoughts on what you think at this point!!

Don't worry guys, ep27 is just the animation studio taking liberties and adding their own scenes and dialogue, none of it is in the manga (i.e. no indication that Hohenheim ever met Trisha when she was a child or that he is a pedo), just ignore for your theorizing and continue watching the show - end of 26 is one of the only scenes where I think the dub is outmatched by the sub - as good as Vic is, Jap VAs just convey emotions much better than the Eng ones

About the symbols on the Gate of Truth, every character in the show has their own version, the other gate you saw in front of Al's is his own gate. If you wanna know more about the symbols, here is some text I copied from Fullmetal Alchemist Wiki: 'For Edward Elric, [...], the mural is a relief of the Sephirothic Tree of Life, which originates from a mystic branch of Judaism known as Kabbalah. Additionally, the mural on Alphonse Elric's Gate is a relief of an illustration from 15th-century alchemist George Ripley's text "The Marrow of Alchemy"' You know how serious the writer was when you see the depth of these little unexplained details and their references in the show, it's actually insane lol. Btw the writer's name is Hiromu Arakawa and she grew up in a dairy farm in the country, ppl never expect about this.
