I think this show has so much value in it when it comes to the writing and characters, messages and themes of the story, I feel like many anime nowadays try what Vinland Saga is doing and miss the mark by pulling their punches on the writing aspect.

I believe it is to mark situations of change or "breath" between different scenes, changing situations and leading to some kind of change. I believe this is not the final meaning, but I can cite a good example as Evangelion [anime], many scenes are interrupted by cricket noises and then things change, important decisions are made and so on. Being an element of nature, this may imply "being in conformity with the naturalness of life" which, despite sounding confusing, is as if the characters found the "right path". Or "ultimate resolution", "finding a purpose".

It may have seemed like Einar wasn't choking him, but that's only because his nightmare was more "painful" than any physical pain he could receive, as one of you mentioned. This episode was heartbreaking and heartwarming, and I think it's a large step towards Thorfinn finding that purpose. I've seen a lot of people on social media complaining about "farmland saga", and wanting S1 Thorfinn back, but this character development is PEAK and I can't understand how people don't see it. It's written beautifully.
