Vinland Saga Episode 24 REACTION!

Just became Patreon, tonight's a good night, Vinland Binge!

Can't wait for the S2 reactions

Season 2 can’t come soon enough. You two aren’t ready for it to get even better. 😆

Thorfinn going after Canute not because he stole his kill but because he genuinely cared about Askellad broke my heart

Night Sterling

Very good reflection on the show! This show has no bad character!!! They all are so well written and just perfectly placed in ever scene. S2 is (for me personally) better but its different.

Not only dropping the dagger, but doing so to reach out for Askeladd :')

Gabriel Barott

askeladd is known as the father killer in the fandom lol, he killed his own dad, he killed ragnar, he killed sweyn, and he killed both of thorfinn's dads (himself and thors)

Amazing god damn season dude. The final episode is so powerful and sets us up for a very unique S2. There is a shot in here that I appreciate a lot, where Thorfinn is holding Askeladd by the shirt and Askeladd is asking Thorfinn if he's thought about how to live his life going forward. I don't now if you guys noticed, but this shot is done in a very similar way to when Thors died (the white background, with nothing but Thorfinn and his father in the shot). I think it's symbolic of Askeladd being a father figure in his life, albeit not the best role model. However, I love the fact that despite Askeladd's seemingly awful nature and Thorfinn being on a quest for revenge, the journey led them both to caring for one another even if Thorfinn didn't realize that. P.S. It's also a running meme that Askeladd was Thorfinn's second dad haha

Gabriel Barott

Something I think is very powerful about Askeladd's death scene that I didn't think about until watching your discussion is that every time Askeladd accepted a duel from Thorfinn it was always under the condition that Thorfinn does something for him in exchange. He humored his honor by using him as a tool for his own motivations. As Askeladd dies, there's nothing left for him to gain by telling Thorfinn that he'll allow him to deal the final blow and end his life. It's the first time in the show Askeladd genuinely shows respect for Thorfinn's desire to restore Thors' honor without viewing it through the lens of his own personal gain. If Askeladd genuinely didn't have at least a small amount of respect for Thorfinn as a warrior, he wouldn't have cared about how Thorfinn might be affected by himself dying without it being by Thorfinn's hands. In other words, in his last moments to be able to be able to do something about it, he wouldn't have forfeited his life to Thorfinn if he truly didn't care about him to some degree. I think this is the same reason Askeladd spoke highly of Thorfinn being Thors' son instead of being disrespectful or dismissive towards it as he was all season, which he did to manipulate Thorfinn into losing some duels, perpetuating the cycle of Thorfinn's usefulness to his own motivations. Askeladd knew how great Thors was as a warrior, but he could never let Thorfinn see that until he lost his selfish reason to use it against him.

Askeladd is one of the few 10/10 characters I've seen in anime

Amit

This episode answers the question whether or not Askelad cares for Thorfinn. Major character development coming next season. Thorfinn is a Eren level GOAT.

Ivan Haji

Completely deserved! 10/10

The characters at the end were all new. Can't wait for you to start season 2. So far it's quite different but equally awesome and an incredibly good adaptation.
