Askeladd obviously has huge respect for Thors and I think he wasn't joking when he asked Thors to lead his crew. He just said it was a joke cuz he kinda knew Thors wasn't up for it. Maybe Askeladd wanted to make Thors a king for the future he wants. But he got Canute for that now though. Feel like Askeladd didn't kill Thorfin only because of his promise to Thors.

Thorfinn might hate Askeladd but he sure is a lot like him, he's learned almost everything he knows from him and he's taken care by him, even if in his own funny ways.

2023-04-18 21:00:19 +0000 UTCaskeladd 100% loves thorfinn imo, this whole lecture was because he was angry that thorfinn's behaviour could get himself killed, it's a very complex and toxic relationship and way of showing love but its absolutely there. i think him saving thorfinn and stabbing him in the process in episode 5 describes their toxic relationship perfectly, sorry for the lengthy comment again lol

2023-04-18 16:40:43 +0000 UTCi love how episode 22 shows us that no matter how many times askeladd teaches thorfinn how to kill him, it never gets through to thorfinn simply because he's too honorable to do something like kill his enemy in his sleep. it's not a weakness, it's a strength even tho it may not seem like it. another thing is how after askeladd's entire speech about how much he despises vikings, his response to canute's question is simply "i'm also just a viking".
