Okabe's whole cringey mad-scientist role-playing turns out to be his psychological response to death trauma. He was just as affected by Mayuri's grandma's death as she was, just that seeing her go to the graveyard made Okabe afraid to see her go. And now it is happening. So everytime he "role-plays" as you guys noticed is to avoid connecting and is a way to put up a front in times inappropriate. Like he says, from an inane line taken from a silly children's television show, Mayuri is now his "hostage." Episodes ago Mr. Braun asks her why she hangs out with Okabe, and she says because she is his hostage. Later Mayuri tells the same thing to Makise and she wants to call the cops on him. Now, Mayuri tells Okabe that perhaps she doesn't need to be his "hostage" anymore since now that he has so many more friends, a sweet sentiment but also ominous. Mayuri reminds Okabe how the lab was so quite and he seemed sad earlier in the year. Okabe told Makise in a previous episode that he just wanted some friends, before the electricity came back on, maybe he felt safe to say that in the dark. Yet he has also told Makise twice now that he considers her a dear friend. And that he will solve his friends' problems, but not because he wants to control, but because they are his friends. It's his fear of losing someone close and now it has become a reality.

2023-04-17 00:10:46 +0000 UTCI could be wrong but I have a feeling Moeka was being as quiet as possible during their previous interactions to ensure that she doesn't inadvertently slip out unnecessary information that could possibly alter the events that could help Sern get a hold of the machine when it was ready. I think Daru is flying under the radar so far, he is actually quite sus for keeping a backdoor open to Sern all this time. Is FB, Braun? Dunno.

2023-04-15 18:21:22 +0000 UTCWhen I first played this segment in the visual novel I also hated Moeka and her stupid leather outfit with a passion. The anime abridges a lot of the original story (like multiple endings), some of which is a shame (but I get it), others that I find necessary. One necessary change from the visual novel: they cut the second time loop in the anime. In the second time loop, Okarin goes "Ufff it must have been a bad dream!" and decides to see how things play out again like a dum dum. Of course, the exact same shit happens. Then, the third time loop in the visual novel is the second time loop in the anime.

They literally are only there to tell you "times up for Mayuri" lol. Okabe and Mayuri's relationship is too wholesome. He created the mad scientist for her, to cheer her up thru her time of grief. She became his "hostage." When Mayuri is talking to Okabe on the roof in episode 12, she says "I don't need to be your hostage anymore." Its heavily implied she pretty much continued to be his hostage and played along with his mad scientist shenanigans to save him from his loneliness. Being his only friend and all. But with the new addition of lab mems, he's gathering people and friends around him. Thus she doesn't need to be his hostage anymore. Its a cruel joke by fate that the moment she said that she isn't needed anymore, she is killed. And not only that, she seems fated to die here. Time sucks lol.
