2023-03-31 08:49:35 +0000 UTCYeah, it's kind of worth seeing some parts of FMA, though. For example, in FMA, you get more time with Maes Hughes. And also the Yoki (character you see later in FMAB) arc is in FMA so when he says in FMAB that the Elrics should remember him from when they ruined his life, if you only watched FMAB, you won't really know what's going on, but in FMA you have that minor arc in full. It's an interesting mix of the two.

My only wish is that they watch 1 episode in Japanese, whether it's on or off camera, so they can experience it at the very least. Obviously it'd take more of their time to do this, but I think watching the first episode of any show they plan to react to in sub & dub, then deciding which to stick with would be a good idea.

2023-03-30 01:53:02 +0000 UTCYeah, just to clarify, there was an initial series called Fullmetal Alchemist and that one wrapped up with a non-manga canon ending because the manga was not complete in time. They redid it and called it Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood but this the canon story and ending. FMA was still very popular so the makers assumed going straight into the action on episode 1 would be fine because people were familiar with the premise already from FMA. If you watch ep 2 of FMAB, it's actually the proper first episode because it introduces characters properly and everything, rather than this ep 1 which kind of throws you in the middle of the action without any introduction.
