hahaha, first example of a tsundere he thinks up is Vegeta. That gave me a good laugh.

Hey, even though you guys were worried about being confused, Carlie caught that Moeka looked like Suzuha this early on. I didn't realize until the reveal that they were related! Good job!

The theories at the end discussion is so deep… and so close, in a parallel universe it probably is true.

I think at this point you're supposed to understand that Okarin & Crew aren't the ones traveling through time... the D-MAIL did. The D-Mail being sent is what changed the time-line. The rest of the characters (besides Okarin) are literally just living their lives on that time-line. They haven't traveled at all and neither has Okarin aside from his mind.

The Great Santini

This is a great comment and I wish someone said it sooner. I thought it was pretty clear during my first watch (even though I had no idea what a "chuni" was back then) but I guess people who are more unfamiliar with anime in general would take him seriously.

The Great Santini

I hope some time during reactions (if you haven't already offcamera) check out the opening. It practically has little to no spoilers with its visuals, the song is a hella bop to listen to and the lyrics are pretty cool to check out when it comes to the themes that this story will explore. Also to have a better understanding of Okabe as a character... his character archetype in japan is classified as a chuunibiyou (eighth grade syndrome). A chuunibiyou is basically a person who roleplays as their own madeup character to make themselves feel more important or cooler than they actually are. Typically they make up mysterious and cool backstories of their character, claim to have hidden mysterious powers/abilities and have knowledge no one else knows about. Why its known as eighth grade syndrome is cos this is typically the kind of behavior of a little kid. The fact he is still putting on this behavior is embarrassing. That's what Okabe is: a chuunibiyou. He is roleplaying as a mad scientist to be cool and just to goof around with his friends. His madeup backstory of being a "mad scientist on the run from a secret organization" to make him feel more important than he actually is, is hilarious. His random phone calls are with nobody. He's just either tryna escape an awkward situation or again making himself look cool. What he actually is (same as Daru and Kurisu), is an 18 year old university student. This is why Okabe shouldn't be taken 100% seriously. Daru, Mayuri (kinda) and Kurisu sure don't.

Not spoiling anything, just wanted to make already said information more clear for you. The dystopia bad future nonsense, you were referring to, is what *apparently* happens in 2036, according to John titor, who *allegedly* time traveled back to 2010 to stop SERN, the bad guys with time machine research and eventually control the world. That’s why him and everyone is in all this fuss about SERN. Sorry for the small wall. 🤓7

Thank you for this!!

Carlie & Ange

Very helpful!! Thank you haha. He had us a little confused 😆

Carlie & Ange

Ohhhhh yes of course! Thanks for the clarification 😊

As Fubuki's number 1 fan, he must.

KaijinGarou

I almost died of cuteness at the double too-too-roo in episode 7.

KaijinGarou

Yeah, they give him too much credit for being right about time travel but he's still got many screws loose up there 🤣

KaijinGarou

I was so proud when Ange knew what a tsundere was!

Martina

Delorian Mail is pretty good actually.

A list of names/nicknames: (firstname then lastname in this list) MC: (everyone calls to him differently, do the same) - Rintarou Okabe - Hououin Kyouma (Nichname for himself) - Okarin (Nickname by Maryuri, OKAbe RINtarou) Tu-tu-ru girl: (usually 'Mayuri') - Mayuri Shīna - Mayushii (Nickname for herself) Part-Timer: (usually 'Suzu' or 'Suzuha') - Suzuha Amane - Part-Time Warrior (Nichname by Okabe) Shy phone retro-pc girl: - Moeka Kiryu - Shining Finger (nickname by Okabe)

Grey Cat

Carlie, 'The Zombie' is not a name Okabe gave for himself but for Kurisu because if you remember, he saw her dead in episode 1 but now she's alive i.e. a zombie. Speaking of names he gives Kurisu, kurisu is actually the japanese pronounciation/romaji of the english name "Chris". That's why he sometimes calls her "Christina". But her first name is actually "Chris". (She's is from the U.S) He is soon also gonna call her '@channeler', because she frequents a in-universe version of '2ch', a popular japanese textboard/forum at the time (and still now ?).

Grey Cat

Too-doo-roo will forever be burnt into my mind. This show is hard to react to (because it's so enthralling), but amazing to theorize with.

dotti

Btw, Okabe is not actually talking to anyone on the phone when he randomly seems like he's taking a call. He just does this to give the appearance that he's an important mad scientist. Think of it kind of like he's a kid pretending to call someone on a phone for roleplay purposes lol

Gabriel Barott

It hurts hearing Carlie speak so bad about Suzuha. She's my second favourit character after Christina. Almost tied with her too.

Episode 7 is where I fell in love with the show, and it only gets better from here. While it's still confusing for first time viewers at this point, there WILL be a point where things start clicking and plot points connect. Also, no worries on pausing mid-reaction. Some shows can have a lot of text/subs at once, so pausing is completely reasonable. Kaguya-sama is another show that does this. Ange, you were just about correct with the "tsundere" explanation. Basically means the person is tough on the outside, softy on the inside. It's almost 4th wall breaking that Daru called Kurisu a tsundere because in reality, she is one. And, although it's memed, Vegeta can be considered a tsundere (in the broadest sense). Carlie, I feel you when you said Mayuri irritates you a tad bit. While she's very kind and friendly, the way she talks and acts/reacts makes her come off as an oddball. There is more to her character though, so, maybe it's justified. There was a brief flashback scene a while back that showed Mayuri standing by a grave and reaching her arm towards the sun (you guys probably didn't recognize that it was a graveyard because they look different in Japan). Sorry my comment ended up so long. Just wanted to share that.

MADHOUSE

Lots of big drops there. I am theorizing with you guys. I am guessing Maki is part timers mom so far, maybe. Did ripping the door from the microwave expose everyone to pulses? So now every version of them is stuck in their own world line, not just Okabe? Did the three of them call from a playground asking for a handout? Or was that a different world line? Regarding phone girl, saying too much or exposing herself might end up damaging the time-line? Both of you are crushing it asking pertinent questions because every time I am formulating a time loop in my head, you throw a wrench in the works. There is one trustworthy person now and its not even okabe.

Amrith

It’s important to remember that Okabe himself isn’t time traveling, it’s only the D-mails (messages) that he’s sending back in time. That’s why when he felt that weird jolt after sending the Lottery D-Mail, he was standing in the same spot. Long story short, the D-mail was received by him 5 days ago in the past, but he’s still in the same place/time in this different world line (with the memories of the previous world line for some reason). Loving the Steinsgate content!!
