I suspect both are true. The symbolism (if crows have the same symbolism in Japan as they do here), and the usage.

2022-12-27 19:41:24 +0000 UTCOk I'll bite. I think its pretty evident that people are after Pochita (the heart of chainsaw) rather than just Denji. Denji right now just seems to be a vessel. So all your comments got me theorizing as well and I thought to myself what could be the dumbest possible premise behind this idea and I hit upon real estate values in hell. All devils come from hell and maybe Pochita was Satan's personal chainsaw to prune his shrubbery but then it got attacked one day, panicked and escaped to earth. So now Satan's shrubbery is growing to immense proportions in his lawn dropping real estate values all around him. So all devils want to move back to earth because satan cant prune his shrubbery. And Makima wants to keep chainsaw here to make sure she can drive up fear among the masses about devils and militarize the PSA/PSD under her control and that is why she let the attack happen.

Aki said he has to feed the demon dog a part of his body when he calls and the sword takes time off his lifespan, the blonde seems to lose a fingernail when she calls the snake, etc. It seems only Denji who formed his contract with a willing devil (Pochita) due to love and merged rather than forming a contract to sacrifice something. Very cool!

It may explain why she needed a temple at some height to get maximum crow assistance and they can target people in Tokyo for her.

2022-12-27 03:19:31 +0000 UTCMakes me wonder (haven't seen any of the anime past this and no manga) what is special about Denji or about killing the Gun Devil that someone like Makima is willing to give Denji anything he wants to kill the Gun Devil and is willing to sacrifice most of her division (to clarify, because it seems implied that she knew at least some of this was happening and seems unsurprised to get the remainder of the people assigned under her in one Division now instead of in four) to keep Denji safe from whoever the Gun Devil's people are.

Could be wrong just my thoughts, crows always symbolize deaths to come in shows.

The others attempted to drink answers out of her, and that was a complete failure. She is completely ruthless - she just exchanged the lives of 20 or so prisoners for other bad guys to save Denji. It's interesting that she did not kill Katana man or Snake lady, though. Maybe she didn't know their names?Maybe they have some quality that means they can't be killed via whatever it is she's doing? Or maybe it's something else (don't read anything into that - I don't know). I think (although I am not sure) that she was using the crows to see through - using their eyes - so she could see which bad guy was where. I don't think she was actually channelling the demon power through them, although I could be wrong.
