2022-08-24 04:28:15 +0000 UTCthere are so many things in jujutsu kaisen that are obviously inspired by older mangas. gojo with his students, eerily similar personalities to kakashi and students (naruto). there's a minor character later on who i swear is exactly the same as a minor character from shaman king. there are a bunch of other similarities but... jujutsu kaisen does a good job of keeping it original and adapting these characters into its own thing. was really impressed with the author tbh.

You talk about mikasa but forget hange, ymir or Sasha who are arguably better? better female doesn’t equal main character…also calling her an eren bot is like calling Tanjiro from demon slayer an “Nezuko bot” god forbid a character caring too much about their family . By best I think you mean strong cuz I’ve read alot of manga and saying this has the strongest when FMAB and others are out there in plain ridiculous.

I don't like Marvel movies for the exact same tropes you mentioned. Demon Slayer is pretty much the Marvel of Anime shows. Plays it safe, contains a generic trope with gorgeous animation, Easter eggs from other shows (like the Godzilla twins). I will continue watching it but It's just serviceable. As much as I love AoT, it lacked zero character development in female characters. It had strong characters, as much as I love Mikasa, no one except Historia has much of an arc. This would be a nice change of pace since Arcane.

That’s why you think it’s more structured, because its used the same formula you saw hundreds time before, just like any Marvel movies. For me personally, JJK took the typical shonen tropes but changing it here and there and make it better. Some people said they subverted it, but I personally don’t think so.(Also as a women, imo JJK has the best written manga/anime female characters.) It’s also so fast pace so I like it, including the fast tonal change, and I understand not all people enjoy that. I guess you can look at it as trying to look at the lighter side in the dark time? Enjoy this first season, it’s fast and quick and exciting, combined with great music, animation, and fighting choreographies, but you need to remember that this season is just characters introduction and the next season is when the “real” story begin

I have probably seen like 5 Anime shows completely at best. Except for studio Ghibli, this is a whole new territory for me, but you are an "veteran" when it comes to anime and will take your word for it but still my feelings about this show reflect yours. 2022-08-22 20:35:53 +0000 UTCI felt the same way too when the first eps came out but then everything went smoothly afterward (imo). I think you need to watch more episodes then you'll notice the pacing slowing down and the connection between events making sense.

I am into it's loose nature that makes it stand apart from the rest, but for now I need to watch a few more Episodes to be on board. Demon Slayer has more structured story-telling but that makes it much more predictable. This one follows the same beats except, it just throws structure out the window. I am finding Tonal dissonance in the first few episodes, right off the bat. To all you viewers who have seen this show already, am I watching a parody and missing the point or is the Tonal dissonance supposed to be part of the narrative and I am still missing the point?
