he actually only says this in the manga as far as I know, he doesn't say this on hulu, funimation, or crunchyroll which I find interesting.

Everyone watching this show is a real person making decisions in their everyday lives that are affected by the themes explored in this show. People can feel deeply attached to the outcomes and sides when it feels so personal and relates to things they are experiencing. It's always an interesting dialectic that mirrors reality without having the actual ramifications of reality.

Eren is a great character with many amazing traits and strengths, but I don't think anyone would say he is anywhere close to as smart as Erwin or Hange or Armin. He glimpsed memories from his father and so had many invaluable insights that others don't have, but I don't think that makes him smart, just well informed. And no, I'm not saying he's dumb either. I just thought it was preposterous calling him smarter than Erwin.

Thats why he is pointing out the thing about the Warhammer power. He is just like showing them. Like hey hange youre the smartest person we got and you overlooked something massive and obvious I can just leave if I wanted. He doesnt think anyone but himself and maybe Zeke can see everything for how it really is. Yet they still dont trust him and wont rely on him. He is trying to take control of the situation. It makes me think of the court room scene in season one. "If you guys arent willing to fight then bet everything on me."

It would be totally out if character for him to say that otherwise. And if you watch the scene, they all abandoned ship and were captured by Levi and other soldiers.

You guys noted that he was gonna learn the wrong lesson and it could be a pivotal moment in his character development. I think thats right, and it shines through in this season as he is making decisions that he perceives as right weather or not his friends agree with him.

I don't think there's any right answer to that question, but we all have our own thresholds. Though, if Eren continues to be absolved of the atrocities he commits because he's doing it for the people he loves, where will we end up? It becomes a pretty slippery slope imo On another note about Eren laughing, you were right, he had done that before when Hannes died. I personally believe he was just laughing at how ridiculous everything is, how crazy it is that it's gotten to this point, that no matter how powerful he becomes, the people he cares about are still dying. Maybe that's incorrect, but that's how I read that scene. Great reaction as always you two :)
