It’s really hard to tell what he would have done obviously. At times I wonder if he would have had the motivation to continue fighting or if the discovery of the truth would have rattled him to continue to win at all costs. A bunch of possibilities

But the reality is when you drop bombs on enemy combatants, children will inevitably and unfortunately die. Eren deliberately waited in that area, because it guaranteed Reiner wouldn't try and fight him. That is also why he made Falco stay. The only other alternative of his transformations timing war for him to then leave the room into the stadium. Who is to say Reiner would not have grabbed/killed him from behind, or that Falco would have ran out after him and told everyone? Intentional killing of civilians is what the Nazi's did during the holocaust. What ISIS did in the year 2014. Not this.

2022-06-30 06:37:59 +0000 UTCThe difference is that before Marley was sending in a small team of infiltrators with very capable combat potential against an opponent that doesnt even know you exist or how strong you are. Marley was content to use these special operations because the risk was extremely low, particularly with the founder in Reiss hands. They never imagined the much less advanced enemy could defeat their squad or find out the truth. They didnt even know about the ODM gear at the time. THEN, Willy learned that his side lost 2 of their combat titans, that the enemy knows about Marley (missing scout ships to island), and the founder and attack are in the hands of someone with huge motivation to destroy you. He is pretty much forced to do a full scale invasion to take the founder and gank their resources while he is at it. The fact that he seems to think he needs full support from the world seems kind of odd unless he is just REALLY scared of Eren.

It's basically like a loaded gun to the other person's head when he shows them he is bleeding (like he showed reiner) in future scenes. Also, eren can't use the full capability of the founding titan because he doesn't have any royal blood

Tactically speaking, this was the perfect time for Eren to attack. Weaken the entire global alliance at once by killing their leaders and generals. It's just unfortunate civilians had to be there too. There are some cases, where no amount of talking will do the job, as is the case with Marley, & Nazi Germany. What was he suppose to do? Just surrender and let his island get bombed into oblivion? Lets not pretend that Marley would have just shook hands with them when hey can't even shake hands with their own Eldian's. But your original point was "you can't justify terrible deeds you've done by the terrible deeds someone else has done to you". I'm simply saying, if fighting back in a war that you were forced in, standing up to tyrannical oppression, defending yourself, your loved ones, and your home isn't enough to justify what Eren did, then nothing is.

I do have sympathy for Eren and everyone on Paradis, of course. I'm just saying maybe not killing people as the answer to everything could lead to something more desirable than children and innocent Eldian and Marleyan civilians. That's all I'm trying to convey. Do I have all the answers to everything? Nope, not pretending to. But to become what you hate doesn't seem like the right response. Also, casualties are of course in every war, but casualties that occur where it could not be helped, or there was a lack of information available is one thing. Casualties resulting from clear understanding and indiscriminate intention is another thing. They are called war crimes for a reason. Justify it all you want. But fun to my head if someone said I could be free but had to kill just one little girl, I could not do it, and I would not want to.

And it was Marley that started it. 3. Why is Eren going on the offensive even a problem? By that logic, the Allies going on the offensive against the Nazi’s (people who Isayama literally based Marley off) was also unjustifiable. Perhaps they should have resorted to talks instead too? 4. ” …it is curious to see how Marley would have reacted if Paradis/Eren chose instead to not attack them…” What are you talking about? Marley literally planned to attack the island AGAIN in season 4 anyway, just a couple episodes ago. This entire event was organised for that purpose, so this time the rest of the world could support them. 5. The fact is, war was declared physically by Marley in Ep 1, & verbally by Tyber in this ep, Eren just responded. & Eren is 110% justified in attacking back at the child killers who attacked Paradis, and planned to continue attacking Paradis. Collateral damage doesn’t take away from that.

I believe the true message of AoT is that there are no winners in a war. both sides have good people, and soldiers on both sides get blinded by hate, going eye for an eye until the whole world goes blind. I also believe that titans (and especially the rumbling) are an allegory for nuclear weapons. unfortunately, this show couldn't be more relateble for the situation in Europe right now...

The world declared war on Paradis during Tybur's speech where Tybur mentioned Eren as the main threat. He gave a full accounting of the truth behind Fritz and Helos, showed the Marleyans that Paradis had renounced war using the Founding Titan. With this knowledge, it is curious to see how Marley would have reacted if Paradis/Eren chose instead to not attack them and try a more diplomatic approach. Edited to remove what may have been considered a spoiler, though I think it was already heavily implied and deduced by Ange and Carlie.

Eren will do what ever he can to protect his island. Sometimes civilians in war die, collateral damage is a thing. I'm sure if he had the infinity gauntlet, he would choose a more peaceful option.

Now that the Founding titan is in possession of Eren, Marley and the world are at threat because Eren is a wildcard. They knew that the Reiss family would maintain the vow renouncing war, but Eren... not so much. They had to share that information to convince the world leaders to join them in war against Paradis/Eren.

Not to justify Marley's ruling class whatsoever, they are a brutal regime. Eren's walked in there as a fully autonomous adult and just murdered hundreds of innocents. He explains that to reiner in the conversation that he understands him and doesnt harbour any ill will towards him, but he also knows that the world wants to kill everyone on the island so his only choice is to fight back even if its horrible to kill people. Also in a way reiner is the hero trying to save the world from the rumbling whilst eren might be willing to use the rumbling to wipe out billions of lives. The writer isnt trying to force you into thinking differently or abandoning eren but hes trying to show you that the main "heroes" are not perfect and have their own vendettas too. Reiner said in the season 2 finale "of all the people in the world i wouldnt want to have that power, it is you Eren" Makes a lot of sense now

But in reality it was the king who made a deal with the Tyburs to stop the war and create a fake hero. That while the king took some of his people to the island. He said that despite having lots of titans in the wall if Marley decided to attack he wouldn't do anything about it because he believed they deserved it. That's why when the Reiss family tried to stop the titans they were unable to because the will of the first king takes over. Willy then explained that the situation is now different because the Founding titan is no longer in possession of the royal family. Since Eren now has the founding then it is now a threat because if he finds a way to use the power then he could unleash all those titans in the wall. Also, notice how Eren was waiting for Willy to declare war, as soon as he said "... a declaration of war!" Eren transforms

I can't say too much to avoid any spoilers but you guys should go back and listen to the majority of Reiner and Eren's conversation again. They're the same. Think hard about what he says you're going to need that knowledge for the future. Also, you guys are correct Eren choose not to heal his leg from whatever happened, just like Reiner when he was attacked in season 2
