Glad folks have clarified some of the dialogue that took place in this episode regarding Reiner having split personality because of trauma and that Eren doesn't know what a monkey is. The AoT community is really supportive in keeping fans on the right path when it comes to interpreting the little details in this show

It gives crazy hints that makes it possible to figure out what's going on but it's breadcrumbs and watching it for the first time is like being pummeled with questions and the answers it gives are either subtle, unsaid, and/or bring more questions with them. It's like being drip fed, and so you keep coming back for more. Incredible writing. The second time through is just saying holy shit the whole time when finding out what they told/showed you without you noticing. And 20 times through you just smirk and tip your cap at how fucking clever it is, while showing your friends and watching reactions. Love the content, you two are great. Thanks :)

2022-05-08 21:07:34 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure this ain't a spoiler but I recon Annie crying as a Titan was her feeling that it was all for nothing because she failed to capture Eren. Her "goal" you can say is to go back home.. to her father. Much like how Reiner and Birthcontrol is always talking about going back to their hometown. Same reason why she cried while thinking about her father while she's fallen at the end of season 1. I'm like 100% sure this isn't a spoiler since you can infer it although it is not confirmed I think.

Plus Eren got to share his frustration and anger towards Reiner and Bert which he couldn't do before when they confessed. It was an interesting and important ep to slow down the pace and get to understand the characters lil bit more rather than what's going on

2022-05-08 17:04:40 +0000 UTCAbout Eren's confusion about the "monkey" thing, not only has Eren not seen the beast titan, he also doesn't know what a monkey is in the first place, because there are no monkeys within the walls. At least, not as far as we've directly seen or what's implied by the climate (the fact that the show seems to be based in a german/european setting).

That weird interaction was to show his emotional confussion and damage from pretending to be a soldier, his mind is in shambles and he switches between personalities (warrior vs. Soldier)
