I think, Scott had to be "down below" so Mark could be "up above" - Balance. and it so happens that the scales balanced once Steve was "down below", The duality of it all, the waxing and waning of the moon. I think steve will reconcile with the dead mother and since they are one and at the same time both on either side- they can bring mom out of the sand and into the reeds because steve only remembers the good times, and Mark has shouldered the responsibility honorably and is contrite and together they can make up a whole person that would make their mother- and their little brother proud. In fact as an extra tear jerker I would have the little brother pop out from the reeds admiring both Steve anbd Mark since he doesn't see them as split, but as one, full- like the full moon, omgohs. But I dont know, lol.

I know you were talking about a third alter, but I don't know if the show is going that direction. For next episode I just want Mark to be happy. It doesn't matter if he's a superhero or just a crazy guy, I need him to heal from his trauma.
