You're right, as a manga reader Eren didn't take that long to transform as he did after Mikasa answered him with "because the world is cruel". There are other added scenes for the sake of the episodes' length that aren't in the manga as well.

Some of the 'camera' work in this episode combined with odm movement is crazy. and worth just taking a step back to enjoy spectacle as displayed in this episode.

2022-04-14 23:43:10 +0000 UTCI didn't read the manga but I heard (spoiler-free) that in it eren transformed instantly. in the anime, I think they just needed to meet the episode/ time count. also, he didn't have a crush on annie. he just didn't want to fight her because he saw them as friends, or at least his "training family" if that makes sense. I hear there's a lot more development of the 104th group in the manga, but generally, they all trained/ lived together so he was very upset about having to hurt her and felt betrayed.

It makes their voice acting look even more impressing in my eyes!! The show has a recurring bird motif, starting all the way back at the beginning when Eren was talking about humanity being stuck in the walls and penned up like cattle. He wants to be free and they often show birds in flight throughout the series to call back to that. Maybe his dad was an ornithologist and the basement has a bunch of birds in it. Eagles, hawks, finches, jays, sparrows. Maybe an owl!

He was commander before Erwin. Just want to clarify when you watch season 1 Keith is leading the scouts and breaking down letting everyone know it was his incompetence that killed "his men" so if it did spoil it for you Carlie and Ange I apologize, but I also wanted to put my perspective on why it wasn't a spoiler for me when I watch/read aot a long time ago.
