PTSD from combat is straighter forward since you can identify the causes easier, such as watching your friend be blown apart by an IED, or watching a squad get ripped apart when a child wearing a bomb vest comes up to them for candy. The trauma of those events is easier to understand. Will likely has a form of CPTSD which is harder to treat since the trauma isn't as clearly defined. A child who grew up fearing for their life every day because of their stepfather, while being scared of any sort of male contact or being left alone with a man from the sexual abuse of their father, which trauma do you treat? How would you treat them both? What is that same child has attempted suicide before reaching age 6? Would exposure therapy work the same way it does for veterans who can't handle loud noises? Letting Will bring up his trauma naturally without pressing him about it would likely be better since rushing someone back into the trauma will have strong negative results.
