The Tapir IS the yakuza boss, the girl was the daughter of his childhood friend Donraku, the older baboon. Or, as the Tapir called him, "Don-chan" for short. There was no "Don" of the organization because that's an italian expression, and these guys are yakuza, not mafia. Also, I'm a few days late so idk if people earlier in the comments already mentioned it, but there's an animated movie that summarizes the events of the series through some people interviewing a bunch of the characters, that offers a *little* more insight into what people were thinking, and resolves the cliffhanger at the end. There's also a live-action spinoff called "RoOT/Route of Odd Taxi" about a second group of people investigating the disappearance at the same time, but without the animal-people filter.

The writing is so solid and snappy and it takes you on such a journey that just leaves you so stunned by it's ending. I'm glad you both saw it through and enjoyed it to such a degree!!

It is very dialogue heavy but not afraid to leave silent lingers on certain things in a cinematic wayโฆ itโs just simply brilliant. No other words
