Star Wars Clone Wars Ep 14

amazing comment, love all the info. I remember learning about the various lightsaber combat forms a while ago and this was a great refresher!

Master Skywalker was said to have been one of the seven greatest lightsaber duelists in galactic history, though he only reached his true peak AFTER his cybernetic reconstruction following Mustafar, ironically costing him a huge amount of his Force potential. Anakin’s preferred lightsaber form is Form V, Shien/Djem So, the Perseverance Form or the Way of the Krayt Dragon. It’s a heavy power-based style focusing on deflecting strikes and immediate countering, based on European longsword dueling. The other Masters are as follows. Master Fisto, who specializes in Form I, Shii-Cho, the Determination Form, or the Way of the Sarlaac. This is the original style developed right as the Jedi Order was being established several thousand years before the films. It is the training form every Jedi learns, and is excellent for fighting multiple opponents or dealing with dual wielding enemies (as this episode demonstrates), but it’s distinctly weaker against single enemies. Next was Dooku, master of Form II, Makashi, the Contention Form or the Way of the Ysalamiri. Always known for its precision, balance and elegant swordplay, it is the opposite of Shii-Cho in that it is less effective against groups but perfect for individual duels, though the crowd-fighting weakness and another blind spot against blaster deflection can both be compensated for with high levels of dedication. Its third and worst weakness, a complete inability to match power strikes cannot, which is precisely why he lost to Anakin in Revenge of the Sith. Next is Obi-Wan, not A Master, but THE Master of Form III, Soresu, the Resilience Form or the Way of the Mynock (Mace Windu was very clear in his praise of Obi-Wan’s skill). It is the ultimate extension of Jedi Pacifist philosophy, focusing entirely on defending against overwhelming forces to protect the wielder and their allies. Form IV, Ataru, the Aggression Form or the Way of the Hawk-Bat, has two champions depending on who you ask. Yoda is the most obvious, using the Force to become a whirling dervish of absolute destruction to his opponents, but the other champion is Qui-Gon, who has earned praise for challenging its main weakness of being extremely physically demanding when he managed to survive against Maul for more than twenty minutes. Form VI, Niman, the Moderation Form or the Way of the Rancor, has its champion in Exar Kun, a Dark Jedi from many centuries before the films who helped devastate the Senate in a daring attempted assassination of the current Supreme Chancellor. He is also the original creator of the dual-bladed lightsaber. The last, Form VII, the Ferocity Form or the Way of the Vornskr, is split into Juyo and Vaapad. Juyo is a rougher, more vicious fighting style originally conceived by the Sith. Vaapad is a very recent fighting style conceived by Mace Windu, its greatest practitioner and the Form VII champion. It involves channeling the Dark Side of both wielder and the enemy in a Force-based feedback loop to wear them down with their own aggression. Unsurprisingly, it is deemed EXTREMELY dangerous and no one below the rank of Jedi Master is permitted to study it. I sincerely apologize if this is far too verbose, but I do hope someone appreciates this little exposition dump.

I wish the show would've shown more about Grievous' past, but this episode gives us enough broads strokes... How he was a renown Warrior (of flesh and blood), and he slowly mechanized himself in order to be a more efficient killing machine.

Kit Fisto is probably my favorite of the prequel era side-character Jedi. Fun Fact! in the original choreography for Palpatine's Arrest scene, Kit was actually supposed to live much longer into the fight.
