After he stole the drugs from the box, one of the ministers noticed and placed a bomb inside the box to "teach the next thief a lesson". They then gave the box to Luffy and his gang after the events of Fishman Island. Luffy then gave the box to Big Mom to save fishman island from her wrath. The minister and the king talked about the box being a bomb and decided not to tell the Straw Hats. And now here we are more than 300 episodes later where that decision pays off in a big way lol.

2025-01-27 04:50:55 +0000 UTCso the old king of fishman island was actualy pretty smart he locked up the tamate box and kept it under the sctrictest guard and told everyone gaurding it and everyone in the castle that they were gaurding the greatest fishman treasure every so if anyone tries to rob them and is able to get past security they will use there efforts to steal the box and worry less about everythign else ..the box was always a bomb

They keep it just as a tradition, it was suppose to be just a decoration and a trap for thieves
