It was because the guy who wrote the laws was the 8 1/2 President Quentin Trembley, so that's why it's also legal to marry a woodpecker in Gravity Falls.

The deed clearly stated who is the owner, so unless you forge it, I don't see how that would help and even in that case, shouldn't there be a register in town hall or something like that? I don't understand if this is just cartoon logic or if it's an actual thing, maybe some legal technicality. I'm not American, so maybe things work differently there.

I was already an adult at the time, and they were like 5 and 8 respectively, and I ended up enjoying myelf way more than they did, I was so invested in it while they weren't even showing a hint of liking the movie.

This means anythin someone finds owns... it never got removed from the law in the world of gravity falls, this is how Gideon just owns the shack by holding the deed.
