Comments

I don't think this is the compliment you think it is.

JelloApocalypse

>Blue Mage Okay, you sold me. I'm going to get Ufo 50 to play Grimstone

Cascade Hellsing

So jello, im going to say all this because I think you've earned it from me. I've been reluctant to give you money because I think you're kind of annoyingly egotistical and I like 50% disagree with how extreme youre into identity politics I watch your stuff anyway because you really are a savant of a video maker. You have a 1 in a million talent for comedy and video structure and editing. So basically I want to congratulate you because the ep1 of this series was so good I literally could not resist to pay immediately to get my fix and see the rest of the series.

Thank you Jello. I knew those quibbles reminded me of something. Cooties had been lost to my ancient memory, but came roaring back as soon as you started talking about Don't Break the Ice. Those old children's game boxes are the building blocks of my childhood.

Well, the creator of the video the QR code linked to is now asking his comment section why Big Dunkies will kill again. So that’s something.

Waldorf's Journey is nowhere NEAR as tough as something like QWOP or Getting Over It lmao

JelloApocalypse

Yeah I "don't like" Porgy in the most frustrating way possible where it's like... This is objectively fine. But if you adjusted a few small things about it it could be incredible.

JelloApocalypse

Huh- yeah, it surprises me that you didn't enjoy Porgy, since it's both an exploration game and an efficiency game. I think the issue is sort of that those two things get in the way of each other a little- every bit of exploration is the hard-won result of figuring out how to make the most of your limited resources, so rather than being in the world and poking around at whatever's interesting, you kind of have to know what you're trying to achieve and properly prepare for it ahead of time. Sucks some of the fun out of the moment-to-moment exploration aspect in pursuit of catharsis. I found I enjoyed Porgy a lot, though- it's the only one I've cherried, even though, yeah, I think its biggest weakness is the back half of the game where you have all these powerups but still just have the four slots, most of which are taken up by necessities. Having to trade off basic movement abilities against powerups feels bad, and the last area just feels kind of artificially difficult because your kit is overdetermined- you need light to see, extra health to get down there, bombs to get into places, and the drill to get through the dirt. Getting a new power in the lategame feels actively disappointing, because it means now you have to figure out which basic quality-of-life upgrade you're going to have to do without now. There was a little something to that, though- late in the game, I ended up freeing up a slot by just ditching the flashlight entirely by memorizing my route first, and I found a long way around that didn't require the drill. Figuring out how to adapt to not having things you've gotten used to is, like... it's not nothing, but it's definitely a different kind of fun to what felt good about the rest of the game. Going from a metroidvania where your options are constantly expanding to this overtuned loadout puzzle situation where your options are extremely limited by the level design feels kind of like falling off a cliff- but I did kind of like what was at the bottom of that cliff for its own sake.

I'm only just getting started with this video but I wanna comment because I actually really have a lot of affection for Waldorf's Journey, to the point that it was my first cherry. I've seen some comments online that compare it to one of those frustration simulators like getting over it but with a ton of safeguards built in, which I don't fully agree with but I can kind of see it. I just really like getting into a rhythm with the game and it's short enough that I never feel really bad for losing even if it was straight up unfair.

JackofCoins

Camouflage was my first game because I thought the puzzle games would be fun, but then I did block koala second and it’s just so many levels

DylanMdog

woah, astralspiff jumpscare

Just Some Loser, LOL

In for a penny- The first part was fun! Love UFO50. Not enough to buy a Big Dunkie though, I value my life too much for that.
