This episode is so underrated. It felt like “drawing poison” from a wound. All their pain is laid bare. It doesn’t just say “oh we have bigger problems now” it validates the pain they have dealt one another.

I always really appreciate when a show highlights that it's okay to not forgive somebody who's done horrific things. Jean explicitly doesn't forgive Reiner even a little bit, and he's not shown in a bad light for it. So many stories out there try to preach that you should forgive everyone once they start making efforts to redeem themselves, regardless of their sins, and sometimes it feels absolutely sickening. It's perfectly valid to never forgive someone fully or at all, and I just like when stories can convey that.

One of my favorite episodes, and it doesn't even have any big fights in it! Unless you count Jean's...outburst. Speaking of Jean, this is a great episode for his character. I also think it's neat that they've kept his feelings Mikasa more on the down low instead of him just blatantly fawning over her.
