For those who don't know, a few years back I drew a webcomic called Cornucopia (or Nuco for short) about a ninja with paint powers who was bad at infiltration.
I finished the first chapter in 2018 and was taking a long break before the second so I could build up 12 pages of backlog before beginning Chapter 2's weekly updates... but that's when Epithet Erased got signed into contract and I had to devote 150% of my time to it.
I put Nuco on indefinite hiatus, the purgatory that all webcomics are doomed to find themselves in eventually. I figured I would return to it at some point once Season 1 was done, but the first season did lasting damage to my hands which I am still feeling even as I type this up, actually.
Nuco languished for a long time. I had five of the twelve buffer pages I intended to draw sitting around on a hard drive, waiting for the day I might hypothetically return to it, but frankly I'm several years out of drawing practice at this point. I think it's time to admit that I dont' think I'll ever revisit Nuco, at least not in its webcomic capacity. It's a shame, because these last few pages are some of the ones I'm proudest of. I think the colors and backgrounds are incredible and I'm even starting to figure out fun ways to illustrate panel layouts, something Chapter 1 really struggled with.
Nuco is my oldest original project that I still think about. I came up with it in high school and refined the hell out of it in college. Nuco is basically my ground zero for figuring out how to tell a story, and honestly even this iteration could probably use some work looking back on it, haha.
It's a shame to admit, but Epithet is my main job right now and it probably will be for the next few years. I'm much more interested in continuing the Epithet novels and working on a handful of YouTube videos and VA work as my side project. Having Nuco eat up 3 days of my week again just isn't an option anymore, so I think it's time to officially put the old girl out to pasture.
I am really glad I finally get to show off that big blue paint explosion on the last page though. REALLY proud of how that one came out. And the drawing of Hiccup hopping around on that final WIP page is one of the best-looking panels in the entire comic.
