It's the best time of the month! The time when I release the monthly update, and with it, make the last one go public! That said, this one's also a little bit sad, because it's the last one that'll be happening for at least two months. That's because this month's update has some parts that are on par with the initial tech demo-y release I made to just my Discord, and as such isn't really fit for public viewing. Once it's a bit more polished, which it should be next month, I'll resume the public updates.
Anyway, without further ado, I'll trust past me once again with the spiel on what's happened in this patch!
It's time for the monthly update! Technically it's been time for a few days but my sleep schedule has been so bad I've literally lost track of time for days on end and didn't realize quite how long it had been. Oops. Sorry about that one. But we're here now, and that's what matters. So what's new since the last update?
Well, we've got three new girls, Stormfront, Sinstress and Vix. If you've been following the blog posts you know a bit about each of them, so I won't dwell on their addition. With them come a bunch of new abilities and weapons, obviously, though one of them isn't presently accessible to the player as I need to make some tweaks to the character creation screen, and I've decided to put that off until the next step forward. Should make sense when I get to that at the what's next bit.
We've also got a bunch of new art assets for the map! The tiles are actual tiles now, and you can see the grass and water for what they're meant to be right now. We're currently not too sure what to do about walls, so they're waiting until we have a more clear direction for our map design sorted out. I for one think they look fine as is.
All attributes now do something! That's a pretty big deal huh. Toughness increases physical HP which I promise will matter one day. I'm debating making it give a small amount of damage reduction too, but that'll have to wait a bit longer. Will increases Will HP, which is arguably the most important thing you could have, and Magic increases Magic Power and the damage on some magic abilities.
I think that's all the major stuff. The content in the game went through more than a 100% increase, which I'm pretty happy about. So, what's next? Well! First off I'm going to be adding Shadow Beasts to Free Battle. They require some fundamental AI shifts to work, as you'll be fighting them in small groups, so the single AI focus needs to be changed, and then I'll need to tweak a bit to make them work as a group. They'll also only have Loss scenes associated with them, and should be much easier to defeat. It'll also mark the first inclusion of M/F scenes, so I'll be adding in an options menu to toggle that on and off.
After that, it'll be in to the strategy side of the game. I don't envision it'll be very good by next month, but I hope to have an ultra basic version available so you can see the general idea of what I'm thinking this game should be.
Until then, I hope you enjoy this current update!
