I feel bad for Allie. She's lagging behind, feeling a bit lost/useless, just like Vi and Evie were, and so Talla asks questions about her world. Then Talla gets upset and makes Allie feel bad about answering anything at all, and leaves her all alone. Allie needs a hug (or some kinds reassurance)

2025-10-20 20:08:32 +0000 UTCIf she were a bit more of a [computer scientist], she might have thought of a Gramophone cylinder analogy, or even been able to reproduce an incredibly simple example with clay if she were ambitious: The idea that regardless of how small the differences are in a hardened recording, if you have a tool precise enough for those recordings to nudge when run across them, you can reproduce the recorded data at full size, sometimes in a very similar way to how they were recorded. It’s a way to get complex information into dense space, like a sound recording onto a vinyl disc. Once the principle is understood and believable, it’s much more believable that these methods can gradually be made smaller and smaller with technological advancement. …though I realize the irony in how I’m not simplifying what I’m saying. Anyway, I’m just addicted to any setting or story where characters get to explain hundred-year-forward technological principles to other characters. :D
