Hunter's Cabin, Adept
Added 2025-03-03 20:48:14 +0000 UTCThis week I made the Hunter's Cabin (11x9), a nice and small cabin map for your weirdos living in the woods or hunting enthusiasts living in a city. In fact, it's so nice and small that I don't have all that much to say about it, so there you go!
1. I wanted to keep this simple as that's just how I imagine cabins. I used the Black Cabin map from Frostmaiden as reference which is a bit larger and more complicated than I'd like but I liked the sort of walkway that it has along the outside. Otherwise, this one is pretty straightforward- a large space with all the necessities plus an additional room for storage.
2. I've been playing with the walls recently in these building maps in an attempt to give them a more natural feeling, freehanding the outlines and drawing the internal details to be a little more rough and dirty. I wanted this one to feel even rougher, so I freehanded it a little less carefully and left some pretty wonky wiggles here and there which I would have gone back and redrawn in previous buildings. I don't think these details stand out much, but I feel like it makes a small difference for me at least.
3. Colors! I wasn't willing to make this one as vibrant as some of the other building maps since it just didn't feel right. The full array of colors I used in the Apothecary Shop really didn't strike me as fitting here, so instead I used the base colors of the Apothecary Shop and toned down the lighting and shadows to be a good bit more yellow and subdued. I think the vibe I landed on is just about what I pictured, it feels a little dusty and old, just how I'd imagine a cabin to feel.
