Haunted Forest Camp, Adept
Added 2024-08-05 15:46:01 +0000 UTCHello there, Adepts! This one is the Haunted Forest Camp (30x35), because eventually everyone has to take a long rest. The question is, what happened to the people who made this camp and why did they leave everything behind?
On an unrelated note, here's an Enchanted version of the map with lots of Fey colors and lighting, how enchanting!
1. I've had variations of this map bumping around for a few years now, a series of small ledges in the forest. I think I keep coming back to it because I haven't made one quite like what I have in my head yet, but I probably should give it a break because I've probably hit on this map concept a few too many times, though this one has the camp and the creek to make things a little more interesting.
2. I've mentioned this somewhat recently in these Behind the Scenes posts, but I've been taking a step back from rock ledges, at least ones drawn like this. Partially this is because of the Underdark maps pushing me to draw more huge drops in elevation (which these rock walls don't depict successfully), but also because I've started to think they look a little clunky and awkward. I'm still not too sure how I'm going to improve upon them, I'm working on it.
3. Hm. Not one of my best. I made this one back in November of last year, and obviously I was still trying to improve on the Haunted palette. This one is definitely a bit washed out and doesn't have nearly enough contrast. Maybe I wanted it to look brighter as an attempt to give the impression of safety from the haunted forest? Or like it's a sunny clearing? I couldn't tell you, but either way it's not quite right. Still definitely usable, but it feels kinda off.
