Every year, the small lakeside village of Manikin celebrates the traditional Festival of Charming Molly. This joyous day of celebration ends with each family placing a similar delicate red-haired toy doll in front of their house, to absorb any lingering evil or bad luck.
The old custom is said to have originated over a hundred years ago when cruel fey folk preyed on the innocent children of Manikin, replacing human newborns with their own offspring.
To this day, the children of Maniken sing parts of an old song in honor of Charming Molly doll and the toymaker of Manikin, whose descendants still live in the village and make dolls in honor of the original:
"Charming Molly fooled the village curse, when the toymaker saved our parents from the worst. Red hair and porcelain skin gives such a frightful chill, as Charming Molly grows tired, Molly Murder will kill..."
Heya, everyone!
Hope you all had fun saving Utha Pahaad in last week's The Living Mountain. This week's upload was inspired by Reclusive Knight Jesper Ohlsson's suggestion 'Automaton of the Ancients', and what I can only assume is me having way too much coffee in the middle of the night!
Molly Murder is an adventure seed that features the small lakeside village of Manikin and its local custom of putting eerie red-haired dolls in front of houses to absorb any lingering evil or bad luck.
I guess even dolls have their limits though because once the third gruesome victim turns up, it is clear that something sinister has definitely found its way to Manikin! Poor Elsbeth, having her entrails fed into her spinning-wheel like that...
You should have no trouble adapting this adventure seed to whatever setting you might prefer. Maybe in your version Manikin is a quiet Dutch fishing village in 1920 or set at the edge of a great elven forest. It's up to you, have fun!
Cheerio,
John
