The Tale of Trusty Torold

Observant listeners recognize the companion mentioned in heroic tales told in the Old Crow tavern in the city of Cadence. These stories feature a mysterious hireling who pushes on against all odds, in the infamous dungeon known as the Cathedral of Primordial Ruin.
He is known in these stories, more often than not, as Trusty Torold, an elusive figure, dragging a curious handcart full of adventuring gear, who is always in the trenches, but never in the spotlight.
However, some adventurers grow suspicious. If the tale of Trusty Torold is almost as old as the Cathedral of Primordial Ruin itself, how could one rather non-descript hireling survive the sheer number of dangerous monsters and brutal traps for all those decades?

Heya, everyone,

I hope you all had fun last week adding the Silent Empress to your pirate/fantasy adventures! This week I have been enjoying some old 1st edition and BX D&D books I recovered from a recent move.

I have always been fascinated by the concept of hirelings and retainers (imagine going into dungeons and danger next to obviously more capable adventurers, that takes courage!) and I often include a few on solo dungeon crawls.

This adventure seed adds plenty of story hooks and an urban/dungeon legend to feature in your game. Trusty Torold started out as a hireling in my own campaign, but after a few weird and creepy oracle interpretations involving him, he grew into so much more...

That's the magic of solo gaming, you never really know what is around the corner in your own imagination!

John
