Some people dream often, while others rarely dream at all. Few dream so deeply as to travel beyond the Wall of Sleep.
This great wall stands somewhere beyond normal restful slumber, obscured by the forgetful fog of ordinary dreams. For some of these dreamers, the wall stands polished and strong. For others, its dull stones have crumbled nearly to dust.
The wall itself exists to guard the dreamer from a vast subliminal world born out of fear and longing. It hides fantastic locations created out of the desire, doubt, hope, and paranoia within the sleeping mind of the dreamer.
The rewards for venturing there can be great, for beyond the Wall of Sleep lies a Dreamscape steeped in symbolism and allegory containing hints of the future and the past.
Heya everyone,
I hope you all had fun last week exploring the Oderweald forest and hanging out with Ableton Dourcask in the Oderweald Arms! This week's upload is a special one! Not only does it feature one of my favorite art pieces by the talented Dean Spencer, but I also had great fun using Deathworks' interesting creative suggestion 'Vision'!
I have a special fondness for medieval dream vision literature left over from my university days, so my mind immediately raced with the possibilities. Also, as you can probably judge from the title, I can also appreciate the Cthulhu Mythos :)
Beyond the Wall lets you explore an everchanging Dreamscape while dealing with your character's concerns in an alternate reality dream adventure narrative. It also serves as an interesting alternative to your favorite oracle/GM emulator results by considering the symbolism in your character's background.
It's still a little rough around the edges, but you should be up and running Dreamscape adventures in no time! It is easily integrated into any setting, fantastic, modern, or otherwise. Even the Dreamscape itself can be as fantastic, or normal, as the dreamer is able to imagine.
I might revisit the concept some time and add interesting locations, people, or rules. I have some remaining notes to include 'reveries', spirit animals that serve as guides in the Dreamscape.
Anyway, enjoy, and cheerio!
John
