Only the most grizzled underground explorers survive to tell fantastic tales of the terrifying things they have seen deep beneath the surface dwellers’ feet.
These brave pioneers know of hidden passageways found within the deepest fissures of the earth, far beyond the most perilous caverns and monstrous lairs.
There lies the entrance to the Dark Beneath, a tenebrous world of subterranean horror and alien wonder. A horrible vastness in which dark elven cities battle for supremacy and daily life consists of a bitter struggle for resources.
It is a world of darkness where any force for good is a mere pinpoint of faltering light. And yet, deep gnomes toil away within fortress-mines and isolated dwarven communities battle to keep the encroaching darkness at bay.
Heya, everyone!
This hexflower dungeon generator was inspired primarily by Jim's awesome suggestion 'underdark', and my own experiences through the years of having player characters explore this subterranean world.
The Dark Beneath generator lets you randomly define a series of connected areas, filled with all manner of rooms that fit the context of the larger area. By rolling on the included hexflowers you will generate a collection of dungeon prompts for you to interpret as you would the results of your favorite GM Emulator/Oracle. Here's a small example:
Area 3
Area type: (04) stalactite
Area theme: (10) rivalry
Area activity: (08) patrolled
Interpretation: the base of a hollowed-out stalactite contains a secret dark elf outpost spying on a rival city.
Room 3
Room trait: (09) fume
Room purpose: (07) senses
Room content: (11) symbol
Interpretation: this chamber of relaxation is thick with a smoke that stimulates the senses. Spider symbols are engraved on the floor.
I also included a large map of a section of the Dark Beneath that you can use to generate results, but you should have no trouble using maps of your own, or even playing mapless.
Enjoy exploring the Dark Beneath!
Cheerio,
John
