When a series of mysterious explosions were observed above the crags, nearby settlers quickly sent out a ranger to investigate.
She reported a strange airship crashing through the mountains. It had been carried through the sky on large balloons filled with the breath of unruly creatures of air and spirit.
These creatures obeyed the commands of strange mages wearing long white tunics, sleeveless cloaks, and distinctive headcloths. Unfortunately, they were guarded by whirling bronze automatons that managed to capture her.
Once taken inside the wreckage, she heard the mages refer to the creatures as ‘djinn’. They appeared to blame the crash on the rebellious nature of one of these fickle creatures...
Heya everyone!
This randomized dungeon location was inspired primarily by Jesper Ohlsson's interesting suggestion 'crater'!
However, quite a few things came together in the creative process: Giorgis on the awesome Mythic GME discord pointed out a great article about using hexflower systems for randomization, and I also managed to pick up a mint copy of the Al Qadim campaign setting box last week!
All this led to 'Last Voyage of the Skymages' and a crashed airship borne by magical balloons filled with djinn breath :)
I think it turned out as a fun little unexpected dungeon encounter you can insert into any campaign really. After all, who knows what strange magical people live beyond the horizon!
The playtest for this new system led to some wonderful combination, as the hexflower navigation drives the movement on the hexflower in an upward trend. Thinking about using it for dungeon maps that are fun to randomize like this.
example 1: memory-fogged waterpipe lounge with Zaratar, skymage vizier and containing a hissing steam cloud.
example 2: automaton guard post with an enraged efreet bouncer and containing Zaratar’s genie bottle.
Hope you guys have fun randomizing this fun little crash site,
Cheerio!
