Valley of the Conquered King

”We have enough problems in the valley without those gnomes in the western mountains disturbing the old kobold tunnels.
Manbane’s ogres lay siege to our village; Ossuh spirit wraiths have been sighted south of the dunes, and bandits steal what little supplies we manage to send for.
We need to request aid from the wizards of the Scroll Vault. However, the journey would likely be a dangerous one.”
- Arnet the Salved, priest of Burnsley village

The idea for a system of adventure hexes for solo play has been floating around in my 'book of ideas' for quite a while. The goal was to make something that could generate hours of solo play, but be pretty simple to design. Time to do something with it :)

I always like to make small condensed settings for solo play with a few simple mechanics for each adventure location, but never thought of connecting the larger hex in a meaningful way.

The idea is that you could combine these adventure hexes into a larger map any way you like by connecting them, but still have the stories that take place in them be nice and focused through its simple mechanics and open-ended story focus. We will see how it works out :) Have fun with the first edition!

Hey John, this is very cool! wondering how you apply hex size in this? such as the larger defined hex is six miles, then the little hexes are 1 mile? half mile? thanks

Perplexing Ruins

Very cool. I've always liked hex maps.
