”The feeble spells of your world are nothing but the half-heard and misunderstood echoes of the planar source resonating its terrible magnificence throughout the planes of existence. When you cast from the planar source, you play with the building blocks of reality.”
- Solstice Loregrave, sourceress of Keystone
I love playing just about any character during my solo gaming. There is something amazing in seeing a few jotted down lines grow into someone you really care about.
However, there is one thing that is kind of a pet peeve of mine: playing magic-users in solo campaigns. There is just something really cool about having a GM describe spell effects to a player, that I find a bit missing in solo play. I always feel like cheating when I cast spells in solo games! :)
Over the years I developed, copied, and hacked together my own system for substituting a free form magic system in place of a set system of spells.
I really like the way it turns selecting your character's spells into a moment of creativity! For me, its a great substitute for the GM describing my spell effects. It is also the main focus of the characters in my own setting: The Planar Frontier.
Hope you guys enjoy it as well :)
Cheerio!
