I only ever buy unsweetened dark chocolate to use as an ingredient or as a drinking snack. I find it yummy with red wine (like a nice port)

I think kids can forgive each other easily because they have less layers of life experience.
Aduls who suffered delusions and betrayals develope a stronger emotional shield.
Moreover, pride and ego are not so developed yet in kids.

It feels properly resolved because the original idea was for each season to be independent and unrelated stories, in a Twilight Zone type way, but after the first one was so successful the studio wanted them to keep the same characters.

Yeah, season two is my least favorite of the series but I think seasons two and three are better than a lot of people give them credit for. My order is 1, 4, 3, 2. Hoping 5 can live up to my expectations.

As I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate dark chocolate more. I love the infusions with cherry, orange, salted caramel and mint. I also use a small block of it when I cook chilli, as it gives it a really deep, rich flavour. Don't add too much, or it'll overpower the food.

I love dark chocolate, up to 85%, above you need really really high quality beans for it to be nice. By that I don't mean Lindt but actual high end chocolate, preferably unmixed beans.

Can't wait for season 2!
Just to warn you that the posters for the following seasons do contain spoilers, particularly season 2 and 4 iirc. If you do want to go in completely blind I would avoid the main posters (I think the main ones weren't originally released until after the first few eps of each season).

One of the brilliant things about this show is how-we-the audience's relationships with the characters grow and change. For the whole first season Steve was just some character out of the John Hughes bargain bin, then in the very last episode he knocks on the door and goes SPLOOSSHH straight into the deep end.

Going off what George was saying about the reappearance of Will, I do remember thinking something somewhat similar the first time I watched. It's not that I wasn't attached to Will as a character; I think the first episode, the flashbacks with Joyce and Jonathan and the general painting of his childhood and relationship with his father did a good job in building Will as a character even with minimal time. But we're much more invested in Eleven since she's one of THE central characters of every episode. So, the finale did feel a bit off to me when the kids rush in to excitedly see Will and yap to him about what happened... when we, and they, just saw Eleven disintegrate?? Plus, the D&D game where they're acting just like they were at the beginning is only a month later. I get that we've switched 80s movie genres again now that the supernatural is "gone" and we can kind of write it off as them being kids but it was too tonally jarring for me the first time I saw it. It felt wrong for the focus to be that much "yay, so happy to have Will back" and not about the loss of Eleven, especially when the audience cares so much about her.

Just a little detailed I noticed, not a spoiler or anything, just that at the end when Will turned on the faucet and then flashed into the Upsidedown, that's how I like to say it, like it's a small town in England, and the water kept flowing, like how they used to say witches can't cross flowing water lol, just spooky lore and I love that stuff.
Excited for next season.
I remember I loved how the story progressed, and not just because there are so many little details, funny but true little things, it's a lot of fun even if you aren't old lol

Dark Chocolate fan, it is also the preferred vegan option, but apart from that I always loved it.
I'll take 70% - 85% cocoa even.
A very strobing finale :D. It is consistent with the creature (and Eleven) affecting electrical fields though, even if that can be tiring on the eyes. I honestly don't recall what the slugs mean, but there certainly is a live cycle inspired by Alien here.
It is possible to assume, that Harper made a plan with Eleven to create some bloodshed, distracting the Demogorgon and take out the Lab squad. He did not plan for Jonathan and Nancy to also do a thing, but we are all glad Steve got to his senses. Joe Keery is a treasure.

Simone, it sounds like you're eating baker's chocolate which is intended for sugar to be added elsewhere in the recipe. Edit, But after looking up some of the products out there, it does seem they make this stuff for snacking on it's own. Crazy I tell ya, lol. I remember finding some in the cupboard when i was a kid and I just remember it being disgusting. My mom said i'd hate it...but ain't no way a kid is staying out of a container marked "chocolate".

I will say that one of the things I really liked about Stranger Thing is that, evil Lab people aside, all of the characters are just good-hearted people. The way that Steve has some real introspection, the way Joyce is with Eleven, the way Lucas helps his friends even though he feels hurt and then apologizes. It's all just so nice amongst all of the horror.
This might be a weird connection, but when you guys have another opening for a short show, you should check out the Queen's Gambit. Another show where there's great adversity but also just a lot of good people.

Stranger Things is not exactly my favorite show, but it's hard to deny how GREAT this first season is. 😆
IMO they could have ended it right there and I'd be perfectly happy. It resolves most of the story while leaving a few things open to keep people talking and guessing. But like all great and popular things... they just have to keep making more.
From my own POV, this show came of nowhere in 2016. I never saw so much as a 30 second teaser or a single screenshot. I just happened to be using Netflix the day it debuted and ended up watching the whole thing in 2 sittings.
When I went back to work on Monday, it felt like everybody I knew discovered the show the same way. That's how FAST this show seemed to explode into pop culture. What's so special was how almost nobody saw it coming. There was no aggressive marketing campaign to hype the show weeks or months in advance. Pure word of mouth.

Modine and Brown are best buds off set.
https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/stranger-things-season-4-millie-bobby-brown-matthew-modine-interview
> During that first season of filming, Modine grew so close to the Brown family that he kind of moved in with them. What was supposed to be a three-day stay in the family’s guest house turned into a three-month stint. “We renamed the guest house Modine House,” says Brown, whose mom would make dinner for the two of them after a long day on set. “If Modine was tired, we would just take the golf cart down to the house, give him his food and leave a note that we loved him.”
> Soon after, the bona fide buddies were heading out on family road trips, driving from Georgia to Florida. Along the way, they stopped off at a grocery store for treats where fans ogled the pair, surprised to see the two actors hanging out. “I think the whole supermarket was like, ‘What are they doing together?’” says Brown. “We were taking selfies in the cereal aisle — I still have those.”

I like dark chocolate, but I've looked asconce at all of it, since reports came out that heavy metals, like lead and cadmium, are in a lot of it.
https://www.health.harvard.edu/heart-health/heavy-metals-found-in-popular-brands-of-dark-chocolate
https://www.consumerreports.org/health/food-safety/lead-and-cadmium-in-dark-chocolate-a8480295550/
"CR tested a mix of brands, including smaller ones, such as Alter Eco and Mast, and more familiar ones, like Dove and Ghirardelli.
For 23 of the bars, eating just an ounce a day would put an adult over a level that public health authorities and CR’s experts say may be harmful for at least one of those heavy metals. Five of the bars were above those levels for both cadmium and lead. Read more about how CR tested dark chocolate (PDF)."

It’s interesting that electricity works in the upside down like street lights and stuff, but everything else is completely covered over and decrepit.

Yeah Keery played Steve with such charm and charisma, the Duffers saw the potential to redeem the character. I think I read somewhere Lonnie was originally supposed to be in the finale with Nancy and Johnathan but I have no idea how true that is. Doesn't make much sense, honestly. It felt like Steve showing up at Johnathon's house was planned to go very differently until the Duffers changed it.

The warden from Count of Monte Cristo is played by Michael Wincott who you may have seen before as the badguy in 'The Crow; or Guy of Gisborne in 'Robin Hood: Prince or Thieves'. He is sadly not in this show or in many TV or movies anymore that I have seen. In the 90s he has a lot of supporting actor work and was often the best thing in a mediocre film. I love his voice and his acting choices always felt solid to me. I wish I saw him in more things. Last thing i remember was a very small part as the animatronic "Will Bill Hickok' that Anthony Hopkin's hangs out with in Westworld Season 1. I kind of asssume he is just more active as a stage actor or something because he is still out there doing stuff, making a living I assume.

And that is a wrap with the first season! I loved that the first season closed a lot of the plot points presented throughout the episodes but still left traces of continuation for the future ones. The series was planned to be a 5-season show but they did a "closed" first one in case the show wouldn't receive the ok for renewal.
One thing about ST is there the story will grow along the way and develop with the characters evolution and relationships. It is really interesting how they will explore the concepts presented in this first season in the next chapters.
Very excited for when you start season 2.
I loved the way the dismissed the steriotypical bully character with Steve's arc. At first you really think he is just that bully douche but if you think on his actions since the beginning, he wasn't really. His friends were jerks but Steve never really acted like them and it was great to see him coming to his senses and joining the gang in the end. They also sort of did this with Hopper character also, that at the start, you think he will be just that imcompetent miserable cop but they then progress to show he is actually quite the opposite and a really interesting character.
About Dark chocolate, I do love it and it is my favorite. However, I tend to stay on the 60-70% and in small quantities. Personally, I like my sweets not that sweet so dark chocolate is perfect.

I hate to sound like "that guy," but, while that trailer is awesome, and it would make a great reaction, it also spoils several important things about the season and tells S&G a couple of things that, based on their reaction to the final episode of season one, they clearly don't know. Whereas, if they go into season 2 blind, it'll make for great surprises when they see them in the episodes directly. I'd instead suggest they react to the trailer after episode one of season 2, because by then the spoilers won't be spoilers anymore, and the new things it does show won't give enough context for the trailer to diminish the in-episode reactions. Hope that makes sense.

I don't think Hopper was selling Eleven out, but that he thought she could protect herself, and making them think he was helping them was the only way he and Joyce had a chance of getting to Will. Also, I don't see him going to the lab as his believing he could get in there a second time without getting caught, but rather that there was no other way they knew of to get to Will. I think he was just hoping he'd be able to find a way to get to the gate, and there wasn't a better option.
These reactions are so great. Super excited for season 2!

because this show began with multiple murders and has a monster that eats people, its a pretty straight forward conclusion to assume people will die. wouldnt it be more weird for someone to just assume everyone is safe and no one ever gets harmed?

my little sister and I like watching this show together and looking for all the parallels and cliches from other stuff. glad you guys enjoyed this too and are committed to returning. s2 is a lot stronger in my opinion, they obviously got some more funding to go towards cast and production, and the retro fantasy/horror/sci-fi references may be a little more ham-fisted, on the nose, or tongue in cheek, but no less endearing or memorable. also the kids are little older, a little better at getting into their characters, and well-settled into that world a year later. s3 is a bit of a downturn, then s4 sets up a presumable conclusion to what we've all been waiting for since 2022. can't wait for s5!

A Re-Reaction to The Thing would be amazing.

Oh I forgot there were only 8 episodes in this season. Neat!
I'm all for a return to Andor next week before continuing with this show (which has also been really fun to revisit).
(I'm putting up a hope-flarefor another Flanagan show for Halloween. (Midnight Mass especially (and this is a third nest of brackets)))

hi Raven, is this happening to you with just this one video? or any video on the site?

I tried clicking on the link to the no sync version of this reaction, and after 3 minutes, it's still buffering. I also tried playing the episode through the website directly, and it still won't play. It just keeps buffering. Is anyone else having this issue?

George, I'm so glad to hear you love "The Thing" so much that you've gone back to watch it again several times. It's my favorite sci-fi movie (with Alien being right behind it).

So now that we're at the end of season one and have full-on Good Guy Steve, it's safe to share that Steve was originally supposed to be killed off in season one. But the Duffers started to love the character, and from what I've read, they basically thought Joe Keery was so cool and such a good hang, essentially, that they wanted to keep him and the character around and pivoted the story.

Dark chocolate is tasty but indeed a delicately timed and applied treat. Anything above 70% and it delves into cardboard-like territory for me personally. If it accompanies a flavourful or spicy meal then it tastes like “nothing and bland” made a baby in confection form…. Uh, anyways great season and hope you dudes enjoy the next one haha

It’s a possibility… but we must be sure first

Mmm, I do love a piece of good dark chocolate! Not all chocolate is made equally well and some of it is downright trash, but if you find the right kind... *insert Homer Simpson drooling GIF here!*

Just a suggestion for when you start season 2 since it’s 9 episodes instead of 8, you should start with the first 3 episodes then 2 a week after that. The first 3 episodes are the shortest and it’ll help with the flow of the season

I'll be there for Andor S2 ! I'm watching these last few episodes of stranger things with you but I don't think I'll be there for the other seasons. I'm really not vibing with it. To each their own. Still hoping you watch The leftovers and watchmen someday :)
