You guys forgot the 80 mil Luthen has hidden 😭 That's what's funding the rebellion and he sells very expensive artifacts. Mothma is just doing her best lol

Thanks for this, you guys! I've wanted to hear your reactions to "Andor" for so long, so this was a real treat. It's such a beautiful and thought-provoking show, and rewards repeat viewing as well with all of these incredible details. The world feels lived-in, it's not clean and shiny with a few patches of dirt -- look at Rix Road and Cassian's town. It feels like a place people live and work.
I knew you guys would love Luthen's incredible "What do I sacrifice?" monologue (how did Stellan not win an Emmy for that??), but I still can't get over that there are three other equally incredible monologues -- Maarva's funeral speech first and foremost, which is also a great reminder (as was the entire season) that Fiona Shaw wasn't just "Harry Potter's aunt," she is one of the most acclaimed actresses in the English language (and won all the awards for her performance of Medea on the British stage years ago). And Kino's powerful "One way out" speech (he's okay, I swear, somebody helped him to shore, I KNOW IT), and last but not least, Nemik's underrated but beautiful speech about the Empire and why it will fall.
I was a little disappointed that you guys not only didn't love the music but actually complained about it. It's so amazing! Nicholas Britell's score for this show is brilliant -- and it's all there in the opening titles -- the music in each title actually evolves across the season to culminate in the "funeral dirge" for Maarva. There are compilations on YouTube -- I hope you will check them out. The music across the episodes is a puzzle box that leads to a final piece. It's also something incredibly gorgeous when they are all combined together (again, see YouTube for this). Each opening credit sequence variation is just another piece of that puzzle.
Another cool aspect of the music is that entire funeral sequence was filmed live with the actual band. And the band included several "invented" instruments by Nicholas Britell to further emphasize this is a real, lived-in world.
The revelation that Cassian has been unknowingly helping to build the Death Star -- the thing that will kill him in the future -- is devastating. And then there's the significance of Cassian going and standing on the beach after he learns of Maarva's death. It's a deliberate echo of a certain beach he will be standing on later on in Rogue One, and it's devastating.
The acting is so good, and I could call out a dozen people, but I'll just say that Diego Luna is so brilliant -- and I think he's underrated because he's so quiet and subtle. He trusts the camera, he doesn't overdo things, because that's not who Cassian is. But one of my favorite things about rewatching was seeing the small changes in Cassian's face as he reacts to each turning point along the way -- and Luna's performance in that final scene with Luthen is fantastic. I loved that George caught the change in Cassian's face -- the way his eyes completely change. And for me, that deep exhale when Luthen smiles. You can see that Cassian was absolutely prepared to die.
It's a beautiful show, and so resonant and important -- never more than right now.

So much this! The score by Nicholas Britell is one of my favorite elements of the show, and it's absolutely brilliant -- and it all comes to fruition in the finale with that incredible funeral sequence.

Not sure if you guys aware but the sewers that Cassian was running through in the last episode were the ones Maarva was trying open in the hopes that the Rebellion would sneak through them to take the Empire by surprise....and little did she know that Cassian as an Agent of the Rebellion did just that! Also I loved your thoughts that the women of Andor are almost the main characters...I sort of feel like that too....I think all the characters are main characters and Cassian is their "axis" point or nexus character...he is the one character all the plot lines revolve around...he weaves in and out of all the other characters stories ...I also think because he is more of a spy and an observer, he is less likely to be the one doing the speeches but he is always the one sparking others to lead (he inspires Jyn to lead in R1). In this first season he inspires the prison to riot and for Kino to take a leadership position, in the Aldahni arc he essentially has to push everyone to admit their true fears and lack of knowledge for the plan to be successful and pushes Luthen further into a leadership role and also inspires Maarva into the Rebellion....during the season Cassian is sparking little fires all along the way that result in Ferrix rising up and being inspired by Maarva but Maarva's inspiration unknowingly came from Cassian....Cassian is sparking the Rebellion just by being who he is...he's stubborn, smart, cunning, a bit reckless but keeps his composure....he is molded by his various traumas caused by the Empire...he was literally fashioned into a weapon by the Empire and will be one of the main weapons used to take down the Empire! Such an insanely well-written story and layered and interesting character...Cassian is the every-man....literally any rebel leader can and has been Cassian. There is nothing that truly makes Cassian special, it's just those around him who believe and trust in him...and see his potential.

We have a Baseline for Credits, Andor when he took a Ship after the Heist he said he give them "30.000" for it and thats more then double what its worth, so one old small space travel ship is less then 15.000
other we have no real knowing, some wikis says 1-1 to US$ but some who counted what tehy biy with credits said more like 1 credit = 58$ which would 400k make 23 Million $
but then they would have stolen 2,3 BILLION in the heist, i dont know how much is the quaterly pay of a whole sector for all imperium

well ... they did ... you just not recgonize them xD
its funny how they not recognize the people from the movie but maybe better so they did not know if he survives if they dont remember him but sad for the character xD

You two really need to find a Youtube compilation where they play the opening themes together, grouped by each arc. It's symphonic, you'll have a new appreciation for the openings.

One of the best parts of Andor is that it works just as well if you take out the Star Wars. It could just be an amazing Sci-Fi series that's perfectly functioning and enjoyable as a stand-alone. You can watch it without knowing anything about Star Wars and it's still good. If you know Star Wars a litte then you can get the references and if you're a super-nerd then it's FULL of Easter Eggs.
Great reaction, great series, can't wait for Season 2!

Years ago, a movie actor appearing on a TV series was a very rare thing. Typically it happened when the actor was on the down slope of a career but now you see all sorts of big names appearing on a number various prestige TV series. It’s quite fascinating.
One of my favorites is Kate Winslet, who appears in the excellent miniseries “Mare of Easttown.”

purchasing power of Imperial credits: in the original star wars Han quotes a price of 10,000 credits to smuggle Ben and Luke to Alderan and Luke responds that they can buy their own ship for that much. So, Mon's 400,000 credits is enough to buy about 40 ships. A sizable amount of money.

There's actually one character from Rogue One in this first Season of Andor that you guys didn't recognize. It's Melshi, the prisoner buddy who escaped together with Andor. In Rogue One he led the team that rescued Jyn Erso at the beginning of the movie and then he later led the rebel ground troops in the assault on Scarif.

Hopefully you guys will be doing a few episodes per week with ST? Or else it will be the equivalent of Simone's Andor opening sequence in real time. I truly believe the golden age of tv writing >> movie scripts has arrived compared with the previous century. If you love Andor's writing, there is also Homeland, Justified, The Shield and other fabulous shows that treat the viewer in an intelligent way. Pair that with phenomenal nuanced acting and flawed characters, and you got yourself a few months of memorable immersion in different worlds. Let's skip all the other shows and seasons that are already heavily watched elsewhere - you'd be surprised at how many niche communities are out there not serviced by existing reaction channels. Your invention of the cinebingers site was frontier genius in serving the community who especially wanted to watch full tv episodes. Keep it up guys!

I'm really glad you guys are continuing to Andor Season 2, after Stranger Things; but so much to discuss. First off as a Star Wars fan Simone & George i assure you that Star Wars doesn't just throw away characters like Kino Loy to the trash compactor 😎. In Star Wars when characters are created and depending on their story arc sometimes the decision is not fully terminate nor end this characters you can think of it like a pause. Droids are significant companions in Star Wars; only having aliens and humans is like having only two car models in this world. Droids having jobs and entities in this universe is much more fun but so much so the mystery is that we still don't know how they became to exist. The only Droid we know is 2500 years old; in 2600 BBY is the time of the first Jedi so we think this droid was built by a Jedi but we are still 100% unsure. And yes this particular Droid is in one of the recent new Star Wars shows. Depending on the branch of service in the Empire you have different color uniforms grey/green is for Empiral Navy and Army officers. Black uniforms are if you are in the Stormtroopers Corp and Starfighter Corps(pilot). As for white uniforms is for the ISB officers. The ranks in the Empire is very complicated not much is known in this part of George Lucas you have different positions and different posts for grandpa Palpatine's chaos regime. Because having different colors and number of bars differentiates your rank from other members of the other branches I mentioned above.[ 🟦 Blue Bars mean Intelligence. 🟥 Red Bars mean Combat. 🟨 Yellow bars mean Engineering.] I've been told the title Grand Moff is having 12 Bars: it needs to start with 6 Blue bars on top with 3 Red & 3 yellow below. A Moff is only 10 Bars: top 5 Blue bars, bottom 3 red & 2 yellow. A Fleet Admiral has 12 in total bars also but Top 6 Red bars with Bottom 6 Blue.

I think the propulsion method for the flechette chafe isn't as important as them being fire into the tractor beam means they are further accelerated by it and causing catastrophic damage.
That is why Luthen guns the engine before he uses them, so that the Commander of the Imperial customs ship responds by cranking the power up on the tractor beam to hold him. I think that amplified the damage it caused. Just my assumption from fake physics of a star war.

The highest-ranking official you have seen was colonel Yularen. He was the head of the ISB he is an old guy with a mustache. He was an admiral for the republic during the clone wars and was in charge of the navel assets attached to Anaken Skywalkers 501st clone legion. After the clone wars he took a demotion in order to lead the ISB Imperial Security Bureau.

The openings sound slow and trudging because they're actually separate pieces of a bigger track. If you play them all at the same time you get the real thing.
My view of it is that they were split this way to reflect how the show is about Andor's backstory being pieced together episode by episode, but I do agree that sometimes you just REACH towards that Skip Intro button.

This was great, as great as season 1 was, season 2 is amazing. A Forest Whitaker (Saw) movie I would recommend is The Last King of Scotland. I know it's probably unlikely but I would recommend a rewatch of Rogue One after season 2
Disclaimer, I have never been tortured and have never tortured anyone so I have no firsthand experience, and I desperately hope that is true when I die. I think the way it works in this show is not just the sound, it is the fact that you are powerless, they can play the sounds every day forever unless you give them the information, and every time you hear it, you risk losing more of your mind and the damage is permanent.
I love the original Star Wars Trilogy, and I think this season does an amazing job of explaining the banality of evil of the Empire. No one questions the methods or what they are doing within the empire; that is the scariest part, how normal it becomes, and why Namek's manifesto and Marva's speech are so powerful as a call to arms.
John

I usually am kind of watching/listening to the reaction while doing other things, but I was really interested in seeing those physical expressions and reactions to those big moments that I was pretty glued to the screen! I just wanted to hand Simone a box of tissues most of the time!
I did see a few parallels with other movies, like when Cass goes to rescue Bix I thought it really mirrored the scene in LotR when Sam rescues Frodo from the tower at Cirith Ungol. And the very end when Cass is all "kill me or take me in" made me think of the King Aruther movie Excalibur when Aruther gives the sword way so he can be knighted...and I can't mention Excalibur with out saying out absolutly jazzed I was when I heard them use the Charm of Making in Ready Player One for the Orb of Osuvox.
Oh and finally when there was talk of Deedra's character, all I could think of was a quote from season 2 "There's a whole galaxy out there waiting to disgust you" :D

On the method of torture being avoidable because "your brain will shut off". That is not a real thing you can do if tortured or otherwise coerced. We have sound torture in the real world and it keeping your from sleeping that will break you. Now add on top of that what George mentioned about there being some messed up psionic component where the death screams of these children trigger a different level of response. There is no level of avoidance that will get you past that.
On top of that the brain shutting down under stress is typically not great, that stress response that will last you the rest of your life in many cases, driving you mad.

Episode 10 is probably one of my favorite episodes of TV ever! A prison break, 2 amazing monologues, Mon Mothma slowly sinking deeper into the mire that is the Rebellion at this point. Just outstanding!! Then episodes 11 and 12 bring it home spectacularly!

Episode 10
There are some Roman numerals on some of the displays in the command center the prisoners captures where Kino speaks. Roman numerals are infrequently seen throughout Star Wars, usually it’s just “Aurabesh” as the written language.
Episode 11
With all the time they have, Marva dying offscreen was a bit odd.
George, it’s not that the droids are necessarily given emotions, but it’s been established that at least in the book canon, droids they seem to develop personalities over a length of time if their memories are not wiped. For example, C-3PO had his memory wiped after Rogue One but R2-D2 did not . R2 has been around for decades with the same personality. R2 is the one character that witnesses nearly all of the important events in the 9 film series (and possibly elsewhere).
A Quadjumper such as the one Andor and Melshi hitch a ride on to escape the prison planet appears in “The Force Awakens” on Rey’s planet of Jaku that she and Finn run towards before it is destroyed and then they see the Millennium Falcon nearby and go aboard it instead.
Luthen fired flechettes at the imperial vessel. They seem to be electromagnetically propelled, or something like that, a sort of cluster of small rail guns firing the flechettes. They are large metal darts that simply smash into the target, and here is a video showing them being used in a firearm:
https://youtu.be/ZMPOGYRZ3Hw?si=S1yIdjF25cQsFr1P
I don’t think anything we can imagine can be as horrible as what the show implies the torture sounds are like. Best that we don’t hear it, I think.

2025-08-26 20:43:45 +0000 UTC
400,000 credits is a lot in this universe. Supposedly a new X-Wing (according to star wars wiki) costs 150,000 credits to make, so two brand new space ships and money left over isn't bad.
I think the big thing with the missing credits is that the money itself isn't that important to Mon Mothma. It's that she doesn't have a good explanation for why it's missing, so if she had been audited there would be some really difficult questions to answer on what she's been spending money on. Some people ask why Luthen or Vel can't give her the money from Aldhani, but they would still need to explain where it came from. She needs Davo because he's even wealthier and a much more effective money launderer. The gambling story helps explain the loss, but it also provides cover for why someone like Mon Mothma is now becoming "close" with a person like Davo. The empire will assume her husband owed Davo money.

Tony Gilroy, the show’s creator and writer said he won’t make anymore Andor and Diego Luna said he won’t play the character without Tony’s writing so there won’t be any more Andor after season 2.
Season 2 is broken up into 1 year chunks. Every 3 episodes is 1 year leading up to the events of Rogue One. (not a spoiler, literally how they pitched and sold it.)
If you want more of the birth of the Rebellion with more familiar characters the show Rebels would give you a LOT of that, but it’s also burdened by so much of it’s mythos relying on the show Clone Wars and all it’s extra new characters. Would REALLY be curious to see what George thinks of Anakin’s Padawan as a child.

Now that is some payoff worth waiting for. Well done show!
As I mentioned, the many characters just teasing each other was not my favorite when I first saw this. It really needed a bit more goal-oriented direction, but I guess so did Cassian.
Splendid finale, great tension to the many chess pieces, and some fine acting all around.
Excited like you seem to be, the second Season will be eagerly awaited. And a rewatch of Rogue One of course, this show does a lot to give even more impact.

So, if I recall correctly, Grand Moffs are the highest rank you get, it was a rank created originally by Palpetine specifically to reward Tarkin though a few others end up getting it. They oversee a "oversector" which was a group of planetary systems each system or sector was in turn usually managed by a Moff or a governor. I believe there were only ever 20 Moffs who had a council of moffs, but I don't remember if that was Legends or current canon.

It's not 3 monologues, it's 4: Kino, Luthen, and Maarva--but also Nemik's manifesto. Not to mention random lines like "I love him more than anything he could ever do wrong" sprinkled in.
I like to imagine the actors opened the script and it was just rocket ship emojis.

Regarding your comments on how credits compare to real world currency. Iirc, at Aldhani they stole a big percentage of an entire Imperial sector's payroll and it was 80 million credits. So, 400,000 for a single person is quite a lot

My favorite scene in the whole series is Luthen's escape from the Interdictor cruiser at the end of ep 11. I wish this series had more of those. It seemed like he could have taken the entire cruiser down if he wanted to, but needed to get out of there quick before they could get more information on him and relay it.
Honestly, one of the best space battles in all of Star Wars.

What you're describing with Dedra Meero, the whole "you're cheering for her and then you remember she's a space Nazi" thing, is all thanks to The Sopranos. It was pretty much the first big, mainstream show with a bad guy as the protagonist. Viewers would cheer for Tony, love Tony, support Tony, and every now and then the showrunner would have him do something truly reprehensible or degenerate or despicable to remind the viewers who and what he is.
Which is another reason you guys need to watch The Sopranos (ijs)

Season 2 is it. It was originally supposed to be 5 seasons, but Gilroy and Luna realized it was taking so long to make the seasons and Luna wasn't getting any younger, that they basically took the 4 seasons they had planned and distilled them down to 4, 3 episode arcs that make up season 2.

Ah man, that's the first I'm hearing that it's only two seasons. That's a bummer. But I guess on the other hand, we know it won't be overstaying its welcome like Mandalorian did (loved the first season, enjoyed the second, never finished the third... but yes, I'm sure I'll see the movie in the theater).

With regards to future seasons:
The original plan was 5 seasons, one for every year leading up to Rogue One
However by the time season 1 wrapped, they realised the effort and toll it took to make what they did wasn't feasible, so instead decided to just make Season 2 with a condensed timeline.
The first season was impacted by Covid and the second by the writers strike, so we are very lucky to get the stellar show we ended up with.
So just two seasons, and planned to be as such, so it is wrapped up as intended.

It's Vater in german, and it's pronounced differently. That's just a Pitch Perfect joke

"Darth Vader" literally translates as "Dark Father"...in German, I believe. The other Sith names are merely conveying bad stuff. Dooku's Sith name was Tyranus. There's also Darth Bane and Darth Plagueis, in addition to Maul and Sidious. Several others in the pre-Force Awakens novels.

I love that the first person to take a leap of faith and test whether the floors were really off was Zinska, Kino's night-shift counterpart

I realize he hasn’t been in the show much but how did it take me until the finale to realize that the actor who plays Pegla is Kieran O’Brien, aka Jamie Tartt’s dad?

You do briefly see the director of the ISB, Colonel Wullf Yularen, after the heist. He is more involved in Clone Wars as a republic naval officer who works with the Jedi and then in Rebels as an Imperial ally to one of the big bads.

No doubt on all points. With Luthen’s monologue, it’s hard to imagine anyone else delivering that because Stellan is sooooooo good and has so much presence and gravitas, for example.

I don't think so, the "longer series" poll dictates next show? But, they are probably eager to see more, plus everyone saying season 2 is 10 times better... 🤷🏻

Like others said, it's a key point that Melshi, Andor's fellow prisoner, is very much in Rogue One as part of the Rebellion. More specifically he's someone you see as part of the group that flies to Scarif and obviously gets cut down in the effort to obtain the Death Star plans.

Ep 10 really highlights when I tell mates that Tony Gilroy (and company) is a top-tier monologue writer. Kino and Luthen’s speeches are truly excellent! But personal fave monologue is Marva’s in the finale - goosebumps haha. Of course it goes without saying that having world-class performers delivering them helps immensely. Fun watch-along and hope you had a good time!

As soon as Simone said "I need a prison break" i thought yeah prison break would be a good show to react to.

Good to see that we'll be back to Andor again soon. Also answers my question about why there was an empty Stranger Things category on the site.
