The German is correct. Meine Herrschaften, schenken sie mir ihre/Ihre Aufmerksamkeit. Sie kommen jetzt in den interessantesten und gleichzeitig geheimsten Raum meiner Fabrik. Meine Damen und Herren, der Inventing Room. It fits because most of the film was shot in Munich.

Now Ryan George's Pitch Meeting for this movie is a must watch!

I used to think that American (mainly Hershey's) and European milk chocolate tasted different, but I liked them both for what they were. People who didn't grow up on Hershey's tend to think it tastes (literally) like vomit. The reason is that old Milton didn't want to use powdered milk like the Europeans did. He wanted to use liquid milk from cows on his own farm (to save money). But fat and water don't mix, so he needed an emulsifier, and the emulsifier he chose, well, tastes like vomit. One day I decided I wanted to understand this better, so I got a bag of Hershey's Nuggets and some nice Callebaut or something and tasted one after the other until I could identify the flavor difference. I don't recommend this experiment be repeated. Now that I can identify it, Hershey's tastes like vomit to me! Turns out the truth doesn't always set you free. Sometimes it makes chocolate taste like vomit.

I remember eating Wonka chocolate bars in the 00's, they were flat and similar looking to a Hersheys, but thicker. It had chocolate fudge in the middle. Gene Wilder was such a lovely man.

Was a great rewatch for me! I grew up with the ’05 Tim Burton version, which was probably one of my most-watched movies as a kid. The first time I saw the 1971 version I didn’t really like it, but watching it now I can appreciate the heart and charm it has. The highlights for me this time were the music, everything Gene Wilder was doing, and all the one-liners. It’s remarkably funny, and a lot of the jokes land really well. Still, I think the movie feels quite weak and disjointed in terms of story and pacing, especially compared to the novel and Burton’s version. A lot of the changes made from the book just don’t work for me. I really think you should watch the ’05 version! I always see it dismissed or written off, but I can’t help feeling that most of the negativity comes simply from how different it is to the ’71 film, which people grew up with or are used to. It’s not a remake of that movie, but another adaptation of the same source material. And great in so many, albeit very different, ways. Visually it’s incredible, and it creates this wonderful, grand world that I completely got lost in as a kid. I really like Depp’s Wonka too, even though he’s played completely differently from Gene Wilder’s. The story is strong and well paced. I know I might be laying it on thick here, but I just hope you give it a chance and go in open-minded, despite what people might say about it being rubbish.

Grandpa Joe is the biggest piece of shit in film history 🤣

Adam smith

Like so many of Roald Dahl's stories, this is clearly a morality tale, set in a semi-fantastical version of the real world, aimed primarily at children.

This is definitely my favorite of the 3 versions. I thought the Depp one (2005) was passable but couldn't finish the Chalamet version (2023, prequel). I'd be willing to give both a second chance, though, and re-evaluate them.

the old man at the beginning with the cleaver would have been called a Rag and Bone man back in the day over here in the UK , they also did sharpen knives

rictus grin

we did have will Wonka branded chocolate for a while in the UK from the late 1980's up until 2014 ish

This was definitely my favorite of the 3 Wonka movies. I am a sucker for old movies. Some of my favorites are from the 40s. And gene Wilder was one of my favorite actors. This movie is o nostalgic for me and its songs that I listen to alot. And the most embarrassing thing that happened to me recently was when i had gotten stuck in a tree after hiding from a friend and couldn't get down.

My favorite version of Willy Wonka from all three will be the one with Johnny Depp from 2005. 2005 and the prequel have more backstory of Slugworth.

Don't recommend the Johnny Depp remake, but Wonka (2023) with Timothée Chalamet is a prequel that was surprisingly good. It leans into the fantastical elements of Willy Wonka and it works.

I was fortunate to visit the Cailler chocolate factory in Switzerland, and I recommend it if you're ever in the area. It was so good that I liked even the types/flavors of chocolate I normally dislike. And yes, we took A LOT home with us.
