The entire bridge scene happened because one guy was trying to kill himself. I wouldn’t doubt for a second that he feels completely responsible for what happened, bc “This wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t there” line of thinking. Can you imagine being him and someone recognizing you (if there was a video of the incident)? Holy shit. The guilt would be insane. There’s no way he’s *not* gonna do it now, except now it might not be public.

I want too see a Victor Von Doom that is a little more true too the comics (with magic and science being combined and being a lord and stuff). ALTHOUGH this movie is FUN, it isnt really too true too the comics in much ways. It sequel is somehow worse....like rushed.... Then there is the remake from a couple years ago which is....horride. then their is the more "accurate" one from this year, which I have not seen yet

Really enjoyed the watchalong, guys! Growing up. I always thought this was a bit over the top but in a fun sort of way. :) A good, fun Summer movie.

I do think you should react to Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer if you're thinking about doing The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Regardless of some of its problems, Rise of the Silver Surfer does feature Galactus and the Silver Surfer. A lot of the stuff it's trying to do is interesting even if it fails. I'd say it's important.

I know some people come down hard on this movie and its sequel, but honestly, they're just OKay. I think the biggest problem with it is the Fantastic Four being at each other instead of being a family and how Doctor Doom is written. The FF are considered Marvel's first family, and that's how they're supposed to operate. The way Doom is portrayed in this is basically nothing like in the comics. In the comics, Doctor Doom is one of the most powerful sorcerers in the world, he's a scientific genius, he's a dictator of a foreign country, and his ego is so large that he talks about himself in the third person. This movie's Doom is basically Lex Luthor from Superman. Besides these two problems, the movie is pretty fun. Great reaction.

There does exist a What If comic about what if Tony Stark became Dr Doom - so while getting RDJ back might have been a Hail Mary move, I'd prefer to see it as it was all part of the plan lol

As far as 2005 superhero movies go, this really wasn't bad. The sequel was, but Julian McMahon elevated this one

This movie is silly and fun. Great attempt at a difficult sci-fi comic book. But no where near as good as Blade, Spider-Man and X-Men before the MCU. And even though they tried really hard with the bathing costume it is tough to sell it when we got creatures like Gollum.

I've seen 3 out of four of the Four. I don't mind this first one but they should have stopped there.

IMO if Marvel made The Thing their leader with a lot of heart and a sense of justice, then made the torch the husband of invisible girl ( a much better pairing for fights) and finally the kid brother who is always goofing but ready for a fight would have the the stretching power, then that combination would allow much more creativity in story telling. But they never consulted me on this ;)

My lack of appreciation for everything Fantastic Four comes from the comics. I was a selective comic fan and FF fell short. It was basically the poor portrayals that lost me. First the Thing should be impressive but he likes to shout "It's clobberin time." and somehow that always just seemed lame to me. Then being invisible, while cool, always seemed unimpressive in fights. Finally their leader Reed could stretch but he never seemed cool doing it. If you read old Plastic Man comics he seems cool and edgy. His secret identity is a criminal. Women love him (never stated outright but yea because he can stretch any part of himself). It's possible to have a lot of fun with a stretching character but Marvel made Richards as dry as stale bread. So I always watch a FF movie with a feeling of: okay prove to me that you can actually make this bunch entertaining. So far these movies have all been much less impressive than X-Men and the Avengers films.

I prefer this version to the more recent ones. I read the original comics as a child in the 60s and I always found it quite camp, intentionally amusing and not to be taken at all seriously - pretty much like the old Batman TV shows . However, I never had any nostalgia for the characters as it was a bit too ridiculous. I agree with George that Dr Doom was the weakest element. I guess you'll want to watch the Silver Surfer sequel sometime fairly soon.

Haven’t seen this in ages, but I suppose it means we will maybe eventually get to the 2015 reboot “Fantastic Four” aka “FANT4STIC” which at least has Michael B. Jordan and Kate Mara as its saving grace. Then there is the 1992 Roger Corman “The Fantastic Four”…
